What exactly do you want? I am sure there will be self-catering places that could accommodate you. Some B+B's can probably do so as well. The one I sometimes look after has a disabled room that has a double (adaptable to twin) room with adjacent wet room and adapted shower), with a twin room adjacent. Then a variety of double and twin rooms for the rest of the party.
Or are you looking for a disabled room that can sleep 6? I can't quite work it out.

Sirzy · 20/07/2012 16:49

The problem is places can't cater for every combination of group size.

Like school governor said look at self catering cottages. Haven do adapted caravans to

Olympia2012 · 20/07/2012 16:50

Well they go their best up accomadate every one, what is it you want??

ImpatientOne · 20/07/2012 16:54

YANBU

YABU to refer to 'disabled' accommodation though Wink as I think it is accessible accommodation that you need...

Places should be universally designed so that they are suitable for as many as possible - this is not that difficult (or expensive).

There are more & more places doing this & offering specialist accommodation so I'm sure you'll be able to find something suitable without too much extra £££ Smile

TheHumancatapult · 20/07/2012 17:14

School

Tried to book two breaks one to Butlins but they can only sleep 4 .But if I did not need accessibile accomidation i could have my family in one accomidation no problem at all

then tried two nights to go visit friends so tried premier inn and travel lodge

ssirzy I looed at lodges and cottages problem is and have this with centre parcs who come pretty close to doing their best .I need to be able to get into more than one bedroom and the bathroom oh and Haven accomidation only one room is and they are not wet rooms they have a step in shower which while i can do wheelies they are bit high even for me Wink

Olympia

Im pointing out they think people with disabilites do not have families obviously

Moominsarescary · 20/07/2012 17:16

Years ago we had 6 people on a haven site, 3 were disabled

Moominsarescary · 20/07/2012 17:20

That was all in one van and was the same for vans with hoists or ones that were just wheelchair accessible

msrantsalot · 20/07/2012 17:20

Perhaps this is just a supply and demand problem, there is not enough demand for a large apartment with disabled access? But I would expect them to give you the 2 rooms for the same price. Are the kids too wee to be on their own rooms overnight?

QuintessentialShadows · 20/07/2012 17:23

I think you will be hard pressed to find a hotel room that sleeps six, disabled or not.

Some hotels can only take three to a room, so, two adults and one child.

Why can you not book more than one room and spread all 6 across the two rooms in a most convenient way?

TheHumancatapult · 20/07/2012 17:25

no but can not have ds3 upstairs in case he fits so need to be able to reach him

Msrant

I think they have not looked at it more than lack of demand .Some people with small familys need carers to

moomin have spoke to haven and they have a couple vans but they are at the top end price range and am loathe to pay more Just becuase im in a wheelchair

lisaro · 20/07/2012 17:30

YABU. How large would a room have to be to sleep four AND provide disabled access? How often would that room be needed? I absolutely agree disabled people should have full access to places wherever possible but you're expecting too much I'm afraid. You could take two rooms.

TheHumancatapult · 20/07/2012 17:33

lisaro which should i put in room on their own the 6year old or a 9yo ? and why should i pay more just becuase i use a wheelchair

and not that much bigger you can use sofa bed where one half slides under the other just like in family rooms and voila you have enough space in the day

OP posts:
TheHumancatapult · 20/07/2012 17:37

quint yes premier in if have all dc with me I have done that before now but butlins cant and on mini breaks often just have my younger two which is when i like to use the same cheap hotels as eveyone else

OP posts:
lisaro · 20/07/2012 17:42

Firstly I never said you should pay more. But I did assume there would be more than one adult so the two room system isn't workable. But to expect a room that size is frankly unrealistic.

Kladdkaka · 20/07/2012 17:42

You should be able to access their services in the same manner as an able bodied person. If an abled person can book for their family of 6 for say £500, a disabled person should also be able to book for their family of 6 for £500. If the disabled person ends up having to pay £600 because of the way the business operates, then they are being discriminated against. Contact the Equalities Commission and sue the buggers.

forevergreek · 20/07/2012 17:48

Usually 3 to a room in hotel so one adult in each with 2 children regardless of disability or not. A hotel room for 6 simply doesn't exist so if you have more than 2 children you need two rooms

Could you book self catered villa somewhere? Cornwall have some we have stayed at ( with sister would uses a wheelchair)

TheHumancatapult · 20/07/2012 17:55

Forever premier inn is often just me and my younger dc so that's infact only 3
But then I have done that but my younger kids want to go yo Butlins and the likes same as many other families

Lisaro family room with bed that slides under sofa would work I know have seen the disabled rooms so room would not need be any bigger , infact dud you know premier in also presume their disabled guests are only 5.8 as their beds are shorter in length

OP posts:
TheHumancatapult · 20/07/2012 17:56

Forever they won't even bend enough to let me bring airbed so dd in double with me Ds on floor on airbed but it's not doable apparently

OP posts:
lisaro · 20/07/2012 17:57

A slide out bed would be a health and safety risk, especially if there was someone disabled in the room. I think you need to apply some common sense.

TheHumancatapult · 20/07/2012 18:19

Pardon common sense I have plenty. Unless you are in a wheelchair yourself who are you to judge if it is safe or not . Can I point out if that's the case why are they happy enough knowing I'm in a wheelchair to let me book a family room which I've had to do in the past when been near friends so I can shower and go down to bar for toilet

So there goes your argument infact that would be more a health and saftey risk

OP posts:
TheHumancatapult · 20/07/2012 18:20

Infact that's what they always tell me to

OP posts:
Olympia2012 · 20/07/2012 18:25

You aren't making much sense..

lisaro · 20/07/2012 18:29

You're just not getting it are you? I give up. You expect everything you want (or perceive a need). Whoever you are life doesn't work like that. You are in for many disappointments.

And no I'm not in a wheelchair but my beloved brother was due to cerebral palsy) until his death. Under no circumstances would any of us have been stupid enough to have him in a room with the floor overfilled. Especially with children. Thank goodness the HSE exists to protect some people from such stupidity.

TheHumancatapult · 20/07/2012 18:30

Olympia

2 holidays

First to Butlins there is 6 of us .
Disabled accomidation only sleeps 4 !!

Non accessible accomidation sleeps 6

Second holiday

myself and two younger dc 9 and 6

Tries to book travel lodge or premier in or holiday in . But disabled accomidation only sleeps 2 . I enquirer about pull out bed or bringing airbed Was told no I have to book a family room . So that stops lisaro argument about health and saftey dead . Now at 9 and 6 I can not put them in room on their own
