to tell or not to tell?

Ok, not really an AIBU but I need advice fast!

I'm supposed to be working today but I'm not well, been throwing up & have stomach pains.

I can't go in to work today but I can't find the phone number - the place is about 10min walk from my house.

Should I walk in and tell them I am unwell or would they think it odd that I am well enough to walk in to tell them I can't work but not well enough to work?

Or, do I say nothing, go in tomorrow and apologise profusely for not contacting them?

You need to tell them. Imagine how awful you'll feel turning up the following day after a no show.

They could discipline you or sack you surely for just not turning up and not calling?

If you know who you work for then google the number, if it's somewhere like Asda then contact head office and ask to be put through...

No contact at all would be unprofessional imo, and could result in disciplinary action.

I tried googling the number, it doesn't come up.

It's in a market and it's quite a new place so 118 and the like probably won't have the number yet.

My boss did give it to me on a bit of paper but DS2 has a thing about shredding paper into tiny pieces and I must have stupidly left it someone he got hold of it.

Can't you ask someone (a neighbour) to drop down for you? They will think you're swinging the lead if you pop in to say you're too ill to work.

You can't not turn up, in my work that would be a disciplinary offence, you might end up in trouble.

If you can't find the number elsewhere (do you have any colleagues mobile nos you could text to get work no?) then you'll have to go in.
Although be prepared for them wondering why you are well enough to get there it not stay there.

Although it probably wasn't the pies, I haven't had any in ages!

I did go in in the end, I had to really, but I think she took one look at my face and realised why I was there! She was very nice about it.
