Is it really that hard to keep Suri Cruise away from the press?

How come other super famous people manage perfectly fine to keep their offspring's out of the tabs? the parents can request this and the press has to comply.

It's uncomfortable seeing this kid everywhere - her clothes, shoes and mannerism to be torn apart by the press.

There is rumour that Katie is deliberately keeping Suri in the press (and has been doing do for a while) in order to stop her being snatched or otherwise removed by scientologists supporting her husband. More to this than meets the eye, I reckon.

Do the States have the same privacy laws we do? Because if they did, then you wouldnt have had Michael Jackson putting masks and veils on his children in public.

Agree. V odd

fireice · 16/07/2012 06:49

There have been a few stories recently of Suri getting upset when her mum has said no to her, I had thought that it was probably something Katie was happy about - it reinforces an idea of her as a reasonably normal, boundaried parent.

laptopwieldingharpy · 16/07/2012 06:53

Agree with sassy. She has to keep her in the limelight if she wants to keep her away from her father's hocus pocus delusions.
Portray normal family life.
The family faem visit and ride on the new york subway was genius. I bet there was an undercover bodyguard nearby the whole time.

If you take your child shopping a lot, as we see in the press, and she is used to getting bought things, there will be tears now and then when she can't have something. They pick up on it as if she's always throwing tantrums like a spoilt little princess.

I'm sure if you took quite a lot of 4 year olds to a pet store, showed them a puppy and then said they couldn't have it, you'd probably get some of them in tears.

Tom Cruise is not going to 'snatch' his own child and risk public backlash and bring shame on Scientology. He has a far greater fortune at his disposal than we could ever dream of. What ever he did to Nicole Kidman to enable him to keep their kids, he will do to Katie Holmes. If there is any 'dirty play' it won't be in the public eye that's for sure.

If the papers are to be believes KH is going for full residency rather than the usual 50/50, therefore it is in her interests to portray as having the child with her 24/7 and not relying on nannies and other staff. Hence the child is dragged over hells half acre with an ensuing press pack to make sure it's all documented.

Since they seem to like shops and museums in NYC, you can hardly make her stay in and not go to them. If she's used to doing that, she should carry on doing that.

I do agree however, that if a celebrity decides not to share their children with the press, it can be done. Does anyone know what Meryl Streep's kids looked like growing up? Could you describe Julia Roberts' three children? Exactly.

Jumping, hasn't it already been agreed that Suri will live with her Mum?

I think it's actually quite nice to see her told no, as the press do seem to like to give the impression she's a 'spoilt little princess'.

I'm not sure why they keep talking about what she wears as if she's an adult or chose it herself?

fireice · 16/07/2012 08:15

midori - I think that she does/did choose it herself - isn't that part of scientology, treat them like little adults and let them make their own choices?

Havering · 16/07/2012 08:38

I do think she is playing the media by trying to be seen as 'normal mum' and the one who is there for Suri. Obviously the fact that Tom cruise was committed to filming somewhere else the last few weeks has helped her do that. It's all very calculated - and if you believe the media maybe she was right to do it that way but sooner or later actual normal life has to resume. What happens when Katie has to go film somewhere? Or when Tom Cruise finishes this film and wants visitation rights. Poor kid will get dragged around even more. Frankly most 4 year olds would always be in tears, asking for a cuddle, holding a comforter if they were chased by the paparazzi every day.

bananaistheanswer · 16/07/2012 08:40

I always thought that she was photographed a lot because Cruise wanted her to be the 'poster child' for his weird cult. No evidence for that, just my thoughts on it. It's not just recently that she's been photographed - it's been for as long as she been around. You rarely saw photos of his other 2 kids growing up, so I think it's terribly unfair on the poor girl. Whatever the reasons for it, she's clearly quite distressed by the whole circus that surrounds her every move, and still she's put through that on a regular basis. Even if it is to do with trying to make sure she's highly visible to avoid any attempt to remove her from her mother, it's a high price for that wee girl to pay. Plenty of grown ups struggle with that kind of harrassment from the press, so a 6 yr old has little chance to grow up without being affected by that.

ddubsgirl · 16/07/2012 08:57

i think that it was more nicole that didnt want the other 2 kids pics all over the place, you hardly ever see her daughter so i think tom & katie play a big part in suri being seen.
