It's not a cupcake it's a fairy cake with more butter icing than is proportionate to the amount of cake you are eating

My rage about cupcakes fairy cakes really is disproportionate to the matter at hand but really, seriously, just STOP WITH IT!

YANBU, I empathise.

NotANaturalGeordie · 14/07/2012 17:20

YADNBU - cup of icing......?

SummerRain · 14/07/2012 17:22

YANBU

At all

MothershipG · 14/07/2012 17:22

YANBU - but maybe 'rage' is a little out of proportion to the overpriced offence?

AgentZigzag · 14/07/2012 17:23

It's a bloody butterfly bun.

RoginaInWellies · 14/07/2012 17:24

I insist on calling them buns. Or wee buns. Will not call them cupcakes. Ever.

CanISawItOff · 14/07/2012 17:26

Noooo a butterfly bun is where you take the top off a fairy cake, put cream in the hole, then cut the top in half and replace in the cream like a butterfly.

mothership no, I think rage is perhaps right considering how many stalls at fetes, on markets and more over mums in the playground who think they can make cake there are around the place.

YANBU. They are completely disgusting. Why would anyone want that much icing? I think they are just an excuse for cake bakers to show off but they taste rank.

YANBU, and I will NOT be making them for any cake stall in the future. My chocolate fairy cakes with dollop of melted chocolate topping are MUCH yummier Grin.

butterflybuns · 14/07/2012 17:28

Cupcakes are a rip off and are sickly. It's either fairy cakes or butterfly buns in our house.

Bunbaker · 14/07/2012 17:29

Cup cakes are just large fairy cakes with far too much sickly icing on. I make muffin shaped fairy cakes, but go easy on the icing.

lovebunny · 14/07/2012 17:29

your mum can get them for £1:50??? they're £2 or £3 round here!

LookAtHerGo · 14/07/2012 17:29

I've just made butterfly cakes Grin ooh it took me back to my childhood

babyheaves · 14/07/2012 17:30

YANBU - they are overpriced fairy cakes.

The cake is the best bit, but its overpowered by the sugar on top.

CanISawItOff · 14/07/2012 17:31

Same here lovebunny average is £2.50 a cake which is utterly ridiculous. Horrible things.

Debeezandbirds · 14/07/2012 17:32

YABU. It's cake. Eat it. Grin

RinkyDinkyDoo · 14/07/2012 17:37

YANBU. Butterfly cakes are the best. Just the right amount of icing.

YANBU - it is like eating a cartoon illustration of a cake.

rogersmellyonthetelly · 14/07/2012 18:02

They aren't cupcakes, they are called BUNS

rogersmellyonthetelly · 14/07/2012 18:03

And thanks to you lot I'm now going to have to go and make a batch of buns to satisfy my craving. Butterfly buns with proper butter cream made with butter and icing sugar. I hope you are all jealous.

noblegiraffe · 14/07/2012 18:05

That much butter icing should go inside a cake, not on top of it. Otherwise you get a mouthful that's all icing and no cake. And if I wanted that, I'd just lick the bowl.

AgentZigzag · 14/07/2012 18:09

Ahh, I was thinking of angel cakes, because they're the same as butterfly buns aren't they?

Well they were when I were a lass.

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 14/07/2012 18:09

Sickening amounts of nicely piped icing on top of a dry cake, and call it a "cupcake" and people will pay ?5 for one here!
