To let DS take the day off school on Monday?

DS is 13 and has spent the past week in Berlin on a school trip. Lots of walking, sightseeing, partying, messing around at night time (I'm guessing, boys dorms!) and a veeeeerrrry long DRIVE home. He's had hardly any sleep since last Sunday.
He arrived back at school today and because of my work, he had to be picked up by his dad and spend another night away from his own bed - again his sleep will be minimum.

Last week at school - they won't be doing much - I feel sorry for him - I've told him to take Monday off school and go back Tuesday. I'm sure many people would "pull a sickie" at work under similar circumstances?

AIBU?

I would!

Socknickingpixie · 14/07/2012 17:09

I wouldn't offer it but your child your choice

Fayrazzled · 14/07/2012 17:09

Not if you think he's so tired his performance at school would be impaired. School might take a dim view given he's had the weekend to recover, but you're the parent so I'd do what you think is best.

"I'm sure many people would "pull a sickie" at work under similar circumstances?"

I'm darned sure his teachers won't be. And they won't have had much sleep either - too busy getting up to tell the little so and sos to shut up and go to sleep!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 14/07/2012 17:11

Split the difference and let him have a lie in, then send him in at lunchtime, maybe?

Petsinmypudenda · 14/07/2012 17:11

Its the last week of school so I doubt he will miss anything

Oh FGS. He's not going to die of tiredness is he? Just send him in, and don't give him the message that's all right to skive if you're a bit tired.

I sent DD in after a couple of recent long weekend trips.

Bubbless · 14/07/2012 17:36

i went on a school trip to france when i was this age and very strongly worded letters were sent home to everyone not in attendance on monday, and went on their perminent record

just send him in, they will only be watching videos!

roisin · 14/07/2012 17:37

YABU. Hasn't he got all day tomorrow to sleep?
Our European trips usually arrive back between 10pm - 2am on the penultimate day of term. There is a 3-line whip that all students (and staff!) must be in school for the final day, assembly etc.

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 14/07/2012 17:42

YABU, he has all day tomorrow to recuperate, and if he has to be a bit tired on Monday he won't die of it anyway. I think it would be pathetic to keep him off.

Chandon · 14/07/2012 17:44

Yes, how would you feel if a teacher would pull a sickie?

Never pulled a sickie in my life.

Sets a bad example imo.

Jst send him to bed early on monday

ilovesooty · 14/07/2012 17:51

Send him in: he's not sick.

LAlady · 14/07/2012 17:54

My DS was in Snowdonia last weekend with school - very active weekend. He was extremely tired when he got home at 11 pm on Sunday. But he had to get up at 6 30 am for school the next day. That's life. He went to bed at 7 pm on Monday.

Sirzy · 14/07/2012 17:54

Send him in, if he got back today then he has most of today and all of tomorrow to recover so what's the problem?

ENormaSnob · 14/07/2012 17:56

Yabu

RobotLover68 · 14/07/2012 17:58

Never pulled a sickie either - my kids would be sent in, it's not an illness

igggi · 14/07/2012 17:59

You sound like a very indulgent parent!

seeker · 14/07/2012 18:05

Why will his sleep be minimum at his dad's? And why isn't his bed at his dad's "his own bed"?

WorraLiberty · 14/07/2012 18:07

My heart breaks for the poor little thing Lol....

BonkeyMollocks · 14/07/2012 18:15

I would send him in!

What happens the next time he says 'Mum, I'm tired! Can I stay off school??' Hmm

It life! And he will more than likely rather be at school for the last week than bored at home! the last week is the best week! You can get away with all sorts! Wink

whathasthecatdonenow · 14/07/2012 19:48

At my school, if students take the day off after a trip because they are tired then that trip probably won't run next year as it will impact too much on other subjects. The staff running it will get a telling off too - for not stressing the importance of attending even if you are tired.

No DVDs and games until Friday here, either - proper lessons for the first four days of next week.

nothinglefttolose · 14/07/2012 19:49

Day off.

Johnnydeppsnewmrs · 14/07/2012 19:59

Send him in!
He has today and tomorrow to recover and catch up on sleep. What is wrong with his bed at his dads?
I (back in the stoneage obviously) managed a weeks trip away traveling with school around Europe (very active). We returned back to school at 9pm on the Wednesday night, and shock horror ALL of those who had been on the trip attended school for the thursday and friday. None of us suffered from it.

SandStorm · 14/07/2012 20:01

YABU. Why can't he sleep at his dad's? Doesn't he have his own bed there too?
