Will poor people be involved/have tickets for the London Olympics?

Stratford is in Newham - one of the most deprived borough in London. No one that I know who lives there/ works there, have tickets or are participating in the celebrations. They can't afford to.

Why is there no uproar? so many Newham/East London kids will not be a part of something that will be happening in their own doorstep.

OP, stop trying to stir up trouble.

I def have issues with how parts of the olympic games are being handled ( VIP traffic lanes, dubious security firm in charge of all of our safety) but your moan is a non issue.

AmberLeaf · 14/07/2012 18:18

Its not a non issue though and its not the first time I've heard it either.

Mrbojangles1 · 14/07/2012 18:21

Oh btw I have also got tickets for the oylmipc concert they were £15 cheapest concert i bet i will evert go to

PooPooInMyToes · 14/07/2012 20:05

Is the concert an adult or family one?

DontEatTheVolesKids · 14/07/2012 20:22

I think most anybody could be volunteer steward which meant some free access to events, they were recruiting actively. There's been controversy because it means people working for free, but it also means a cheap way into the park & actually viewing some events.

I think the tickets could be bought & given away. The named person on the tickets is responsible for them being used correctly, but doesn't have to use the tickets themselves.

What a load of bollocks!!

Poor people?

You patronising shite

What the fuck do you mean by poor?

In the workhouse?

theonlynonblonde · 14/07/2012 21:00

Hmm, not sure about the basis of this OP - does no one in Newham ever go to a football match? I'm always amazed by the price of tickets for footie matches but it doesn't seem to put a lot of people off, a lot of whom probably aren't among the most well off in society.

And as other posters have pointed out there are a) cheaper tickets available for lots of events b) the torch relay is free to watch c) there's a limited number of tickets available for all events anyway. Bit odd to try to argue that people in Newham ought somehow to get preferential treatment on tickets if they're not even getting involved in celebrations, which could actually be free.

LottoQueen · 14/07/2012 21:11

There are plenty of people that I know that go to watch West Ham.

Those tickets are not cheap.

As others have said OP, what are you trying to imply?

AmberLeaf · 14/07/2012 23:44

Well I am poor. I am a londoner. I got the point the OP was making. She isn't saying every single person in newham is poor but you can't argue with statistics there ate a lot of poorer people in newham.

I know lots of people that go to football matches most are working class actually all are working class! None of them are poor. Poor people can't afford football tickets. I've been to one football match and that was because the club gave free tickets to the kids school.

WorraLiberty · 14/07/2012 23:52

There are a lot of poorer people everywhere and the OP imo is completely patronising.

I actually laughed out loud at this...

If there are cheap tickets available, I will buy and happily donate to kids in Newham...it's just knowing how to go about doing it and who I approach

Ohhhh for the love of God...why not make them a sandwich and a flask of hot soup Lol....

AmberLeaf · 15/07/2012 00:13

Yeah there are poor people everywhere but this is about the poor ones with the olympics happening in their backyard no?
