Will poor people be involved/have tickets for the London Olympics?

Stratford is in Newham - one of the most deprived borough in London. No one that I know who lives there/ works there, have tickets or are participating in the celebrations. They can't afford to.

Why is there no uproar? so many Newham/East London kids will not be a part of something that will be happening in their own doorstep.

As a London dweller i don't feel that i am suffering because of it. If anything the areas surrounding it have been regenerated, had loads of money spent on them, jobs created etc. Some are looking pretty good.

There will be disruption during those few weeks but i don't see it as a big deal.

PooPoo, please don't be upbeat. You might make people happy.

Which would never do.

PooPooInMyToes · 14/07/2012 17:36

Regenerated? Rejuvenated?

Confused
PooPooInMyToes · 14/07/2012 17:38

Damn unpredictable pmt! On one thread being called upbeat and on another a cunt Grin

AmberLeaf · 14/07/2012 17:43

I live in newham and have tickets to multiple events.

grovel · 14/07/2012 17:47

5alive, you're fucking up a good thread.

Bet you're not really poor anyway.

Accuracyrequired · 14/07/2012 17:49

We got some £20 tickets, and you get free travel with them, so each is about 15 in the end.

5alive4life · 14/07/2012 17:51

Apologies grovel,
By multiple events I mean 2 events, neither which are at the Olympic stadium,I spent a total of £40 on the tickets.

AmberLeaf · 14/07/2012 17:52

If 5alive has multiple tickets then he/she can't be poor! Unless he/she has got 6 children in newham schools and has sniped all the free tickets.

AmberLeaf · 14/07/2012 17:52

Aah x post!

AmberLeaf · 14/07/2012 17:54

Are there any tickets available for any equestrian events does anyone know?

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 14/07/2012 17:57

I'm pretty skint, plus I used to live in East London when I went to uni (came back up north after finishing my degree) and I've got tickets. I managed to get some two months ago - mine was £40 and DS has a 'pay your age' ticket. The fact that we have to actually get to London and back more than doubles the cost I have to pay out, so why should poor locals get subsidised tickets? What about poor northerners, or poor Scots? The Olympics might be being held (mainly) in London but you need to remember that they don't 'belong' to London alone, but to the whole of the UK.

AmberLeaf · 14/07/2012 18:00

Soft kitty.

Please don't think londoners want to have ownership of the olympics!

so why should poor locals get subsidised tickets? What about poor northerners, or poor Scots?

Again because poor northerners and poor scots aren't being inconvenienced by them. They can take it or leave it.

5alive4life · 14/07/2012 18:01

No children,I'm actually a nanny and have been addicted to this place since stumbling across the thread about a mother wanting free babysitting from another nanny.
I have 2 family members in newham primary schools and this is the first I have heard about students being given tickets?
Personally I think the Olympics will be great for newham, they have already created a lot of jobs.
Only gripe is the parking restrictions outside our flat,no parking from 8AM-9PM unless you get a special Olympics permit!!! (These are already cpz for residents, apparently our own permits are not accepted)

AmberLeaf · 14/07/2012 18:01

Also if they really do 'belong' to the whole uk why is it only london council tax payers that faced an increase because of them?

AmberLeaf · 14/07/2012 18:03

Only gripe is the parking restrictions outside our flat,no parking from 8AM-9PM unless you get a special Olympics permit!!! (These are already cpz for residents, apparently our own permits are not accepted

That's the type of inconvenience that I think should mean residents get cheaper/free tickets.

Accuracyrequired · 14/07/2012 18:06

Do people from outside London not get the tfl tickets free?

Accuracyrequired · 14/07/2012 18:06

We have a parking permit as well.

Accuracyrequired · 14/07/2012 18:07

The restrictions have already begun on parking this weekend.

5alive4life · 14/07/2012 18:09

I think all tickets come with a day travekcard for zones 1-6 regardless of where in the world the tickets have been sent

ajandjjmum · 14/07/2012 18:11

I think there are plenty of rich kids not going to an Olympic event as well! Grin

There are still tickets available at £15 each for the Torch concert in Hyde Park (or were in the week) - I think that's really reasonable, and am surprised it didn't sell out weeks ago.

The torch relay is fun and cheap.

I think people need to look and plan, rather than expect to be handed tickets.
