Huh???

WorraLiberty · 13/07/2012 20:42

The world's gone mad

I remember a time when supermarkets, factories and shops in general were almost pulling people off the streets to work for them.

Now they want a degree in rocket science just to put a few groceries through a scanner.

Thing3 · 13/07/2012 20:44

I applied to work in Safeway a few years ago and you had to take a test to be able to operate a till, I failed :(

AlfalfaMum · 13/07/2012 20:49

Aw, it's hard to look enthusiastic when you're feeling anxious!
How much longer does the probationary period last?

FlossieMae · 13/07/2012 20:55

eh? I'm sympathetic about your anxiety tink, but last Friday you were in week 7 and ttoday you have completed week 10?
Please relax and smile a bit more at the customers.

JumpingThroughHoops · 13/07/2012 20:56

This was a thread a few weeks back

SESthebrave · 13/07/2012 20:56

Tink - hello!
As you know, I work in retail. These assessments are quite normal. Some believe they help ensure customers receive the best service possible whereas some think it's a bit of a waste of effort and puts undue pressure on employees.
Please do not worry though and this far in, if there were a problem, they would have started more formal discussions and would have used words to the effect of "not confirming your employment " or "extending your probationary period"

Employers these days seem to think that all emoyees appreciate & benefit from this style of feedback. Don't take it personally and congratulate yourself on what you are doing well and that you actually managed to secure a job in the current climate.

Bedtime1 · 13/07/2012 20:58

Aww well done for reaching week 10! Just smile more and you'll be fine.i know you don't always feel like smiling especially when anxious but just give it a go and smile! :)

FlossieMae · 13/07/2012 20:59

Hi Tink, long time no see. Smile

Hang in there, you're doing fine. I know how awful it is when anxiety stops you from being able to do the things you want and need to do, but you can do this and the longer you're there the more you'll relax and it will feel easier and more natural.

Am guessing the rain put pay to Betterware or are you doing both? I wouldn't blame you for knocking it on the head if you have, I don't think I'd like to be delivering catalogues in this weather either.

How many weeks till the big move now?

Popoozle · 13/07/2012 21:15

You seem to be doing very well. The comments you have been given all sound quite positive - that you need to chat more to the customers really isn't a huge criticism Grin.

Well done! I hope you are enjoying your new job.

tinkcantwaittomove · 13/07/2012 21:26
