To think that if you have been on a date with a bloke twice in four weeks you aren't "going out" with him

Yes, I'm probably being a killjoy here. I was out with a group last night and it got around to men as it does. My dear friend started to talk about the bloke she was seeing and said that she was going out with him. Bless her. She's been out with him twice in four weeks and both times she's asked him out on a date. I wanted to say to her that this is not really going out with someone, more just a date but, I didn't want to sound mean.

Mhmm, well YNBU in that they aren't "going out", but YABU to be irked about it. Reading (a lot) between the lines, is your friend new-ish to the dating scene? It could be she's just not au fait with dating terminology and the fine line between dating, going out and shagging "seeing each other".

Well, yes she is in that she was in a "serious" relationship for four years. She lived in the opposite side of the country to him all that time and often had drunken snogs with ransoms that she couldn't remember about the next day though!!! It's an age difference between me and her. Sod it though. It shouldn't be so hard to get someone to go out with you. If they are into you, shouldn't they be arranging the next date or at least ringing you to see how you are? It's just me, I'm old fashioned!

Fuck no! That's what decent fellas do, although there would appear to be a chronic shortage of that sort. This is just reminding me of how tiring dating can be! It should be fun! Sex and The City has a lot to answer for.

Well, that's the age difference surely? The men I've dated recently (too long ago) aren't into all this texting/Facebook malarkey they just pick up the phone and ring!
