To get annoyed that every pregnancy update newsletter I get refers to the baby as she?

I know it's really petty but I'm really fed up that all the pregnancy e-mails I get refer to the baby as 'she', I know my baby is a boy. Anyone else irritated or is it just me?

Lol I remember being annoyed too (mother of 3 boys here!)

But I suppose it beats the hell out of 'it' Grin

yep was gonna say the same as Worra - better than it!!!

cakeandcava · 10/07/2012 16:14

The Babycentre emails do he/she every other month I think -at least the app does. I got the mumsnet one the other day and did notice the 'she' in the text (am having a boy too) -perhaps this is the standard these days?

HecateHarshPants · 10/07/2012 16:15

It's just because the default used to be 'he'.

don't know why they don't just do s/he and him/her (or her/him) instead though.

MrsHelsBels74 · 10/07/2012 16:15

But you could say they/the baby surely? One of the sonographers I work with refers to all babies as 'junior' which I think is quite sweet!

Yeah but if they did it as junior people would complain about that.

Am I being completely dim (probably) but dont they all start off as female until that extra chromosome kicks in...maybe thats the reason Hmm

Ithinkitsjustme · 10/07/2012 16:17

Never noticed - but sounds a bit odd to me, probably the result of womens lib complaining that the babies used to be referred to as "he"

WorraLiberty · 10/07/2012 16:18

They do the same with cats by the way

They're always known as 'she' Grin

MrsHelsBels74 · 10/07/2012 16:22

Yes I know Worra, but my cats are female so I don't object to that as much Wink

I just don't see what's so difficult about saying she/he him/her or they.
