We're in the UK. It's not like wet weather is unique. It's not like we've never had wash out summers before. Have just been into town and although I started off in a good mood, I have heard nothing but moans about the rain. And the weather. And more rain. And now I'm depressed because everyone's so miserable.
Yes, it's a PITA. Yes it's hard to keep kids entertained in the rain.
But people have lost their homes and their incomes because of the floods.
To those of us who only have to contend with frizzy hair and damp garments PLEASE STOP MOANING.

YABU - I got back from holiday 3 weeks ago. So far there has only been one nice afternoon. I believe it is called summer for a reason.

bakingaddict · 10/07/2012 17:54

Threelittleducks and sassy....I too wish for wasp armageddon, to them I mean

I imagine they have some reason for existence but i've never bothered to find out..

But really it's not like it's just been a month of bad weather, it's rained pretty much constantly since the beginning of April apart from the nice hot week at the end of May...I find that amount of crap weather, even for us Brits being used to a certain amount of shitty weather, really is something to complain about

gwenniebee · 10/07/2012 18:01

YABU

In no particular order: can't get the washing dry, garden is being eaten alive by overrunning slugs, my veg are ruined, my floors get filthy within minutes of being cleaned because my house is so small there isn't really anywhere to stand to take wet things off without dripping in the main house, my raincoat doesn't go round my massively pregnant bump, the rain found its way into my house and rained into my kitchen for a month before expensive repairs were done.

And, where I live at any rate, we haven't really had a "decent" summer (ie you could plan something on the Monday for the Saturday being fairly certain the weather would be nice) for about four years.

hiddenhome · 10/07/2012 18:15

YABU we have been flooded and our home is trashed, but I'm still moaning about the weather and I'm dreading keeping the dcs entertained during the holidays.

boomdecker · 10/07/2012 18:28

hiddenhome that must be utterly bleak - hope you get sorted out asap.

Look, we're British and moaning talking about the weather is what we do, cultural identity and all that. It's only the "correct" weather for about 3 days a year - the rest of the time we need to complain.

I'm relieved the reservoirs are filling up and all the scare stories about water being turned off and pumps in the street to supply homes will come to nothing.

Glad my hosepipe ban has been lifted (though we certainly don't need to water the garden at the moment, haha.)

I'm possibly in a minority though as I don't like baking in the sun.

I was about to write the same thing, Empusa. The summer is usually a time of feeling OK, but this year I feel anxious that the nights are going to start drawing in before I've even felt a respite.

I do know what you mean OP, and I'm completely OK with normal UK weather, but this is getting me down!

NoComet · 10/07/2012 18:38

YANU
I reserve the right to moan when every last event we've planned has either been wet or cancelled.

It's a getting beyond annoying outing up posters and printing fliers in the certain knowledge of precipitation .

Also it pissed it down on me coming out of Tescos today.

Empusa · 10/07/2012 18:40

weasel :( It's horrible isn't it?

orangeandlemons · 10/07/2012 18:41

I'm with Empusa. All the dark skies get me down and make me feel very low. I NEED sunlight.Apparently SAD sufferers are having a very bad time a tthe moment due to the weather. They aren't recovering like they should due to so little sun. Also don't we need Vitamin D from sunshine too? (it does come from sunshine?)

voddiekeepsmesane · 10/07/2012 18:43

This isn't the normal British summer weather though is it. We have had the wettest April to June on record.

In the 18 years I have lived in this country I have rather enjoyed the British summers (don't like it hot) but this year its not just the cloud it's the rain not just drizzle or showers no no no. It's real rain and I live in the South East I really feel for those west and north who have had the floods.

littlebluechair · 10/07/2012 18:48

Oh YABU, I can't be doing with jolly hockey stick types going on about how lucky we are not to have a drought etc! I am tediously sick of being wet, I'm a fairly all-weather girl but non-stop rain is a bit dull.

voddiekeepsmesane · 10/07/2012 18:56

Yep we expect rain October through April but but when it's dark clouds even in July that can get people down.

Like I said I don't think the British kid themselves that summer will be great but light fluffy cloud with the odd shower is what I personally expect.

At the moment it is not even 7pm in the middle of summer and we have all lights on because it is so dark with the rain and wind outside if it wasn't fot the fact that it is still 14 degrees outside I would swear it was November already :(

mumblecrumble · 10/07/2012 19:01

er.... a lot of people have had property and lively hoods damaged due to floods. Crops are crappy due to drought then floods - cost of food, farmers crappy wages etc. Many festival/community events cancelled.....

You don;t have to moan but at least be sympathetic.

BasilDonna · 10/07/2012 19:12

I must say though that while the wasps might get armageddoned the slugs and snails seem to be flourishing. The buggers.

Levantine · 10/07/2012 19:26

Oh I HATE it, not the inconvenience of not being able to go out and have fun as much as the sheer bloody grey skies. It's really getting me down. No chance of getting any to the sun either

rogersmellyonthetelly · 10/07/2012 19:30

I have just been to the great Yorkshire show for what should have been 3 days of competing on my horse. Tomorrow instead of competing I will be sitting at home bored and somewhat pissed off because the show I have entered has been cancelled after the first day due to the deluge this afternoon on top of last weeks monsoon has left the show rings a bog and the car parks a mudslide. I have wasted £££ in entry fees, stabling and membership to go, but on the whole i condiser myself quite lucky, I managed to get out of the horsebox park without sliding my wagon into anyone else's, with assistance from a tractor. Even better, I've just noticed the beginnings of mud fever on my horses legs due to standing fetlock deep in sludge for the past 2 weeks, this is a particularly unpleasant skin condition which requires me picking sore scabs off his legs to allow the skin underneath to heal. And he doesn't like me touching them because they are sore! Happy days.
Hay will be in short supply over the winter, meaning prices will rocket. Grain will likely not be too good either, so hard feed prices will go up again.
It's the farmers I feel for most, this is their income, not a minor inconvenience.
So if it's ok with you OP, I'm going to moan to my hearts content!

PrincessOfChina · 10/07/2012 19:31

I don't melt in the rain but I am sick to death of having to wear boots and socks to keep my feet dry. I feel like a loon wearing boots in summer.

ChickenLickn · 10/07/2012 20:01

70 posts moaning about the weather!

Smokedsalmonbagel · 10/07/2012 20:26

If you'd said that last year I would have agreed with you as I hate people moaning about the weather. I've always just thought the weather does what it does.

But this summer has been shocking. DS1 probably won't get to do his first school sports day. Even I'm moaning about the weather!!!

voddiekeepsmesane · 10/07/2012 20:37

Chicken I don't think people are just moaning this year but as mumble says it has had real effects on peoples lifes this year as opposed to just being an inconvenience like a normal British summer.

hiddenhome · 10/07/2012 21:41

I'm loving the summer, really I am, it's fab Confused

ElaineBenes · 11/07/2012 02:42

be careful what you wish for. I'm in the US and the past week we've had 40 degree heatwave which with the humidity is an absolute nightmare. I'm looking enviously at a nice, cool British summer...

RumbleGreen · 11/07/2012 02:50

Are we still in drought?
