We're in the UK. It's not like wet weather is unique. It's not like we've never had wash out summers before. Have just been into town and although I started off in a good mood, I have heard nothing but moans about the rain. And the weather. And more rain. And now I'm depressed because everyone's so miserable.
Yes, it's a PITA. Yes it's hard to keep kids entertained in the rain.
But people have lost their homes and their incomes because of the floods.
To those of us who only have to contend with frizzy hair and damp garments PLEASE STOP MOANING.

Sandy- I was wondering how summer businesses were doing, it must be a really bad knock on effect.

Apoundinatin · 10/07/2012 16:07

sassy! YADNBU. It's England. It rains. Get over it.

Paiviaso · 10/07/2012 16:08

YANBU.

I like the rain. And you can still go outside in it!

The thing is, I am from a much rainier place. In Vancouver, where I'm from, it literally rains twice as much per year as it does in Cambridge, where I now live. So when people moan about the rain I'm a bit Hmm.

MyMelody · 10/07/2012 16:09

Pets- that is so true! Grin

Sassybeast · 10/07/2012 16:11

But kids don't melt if they play outside in the rain......

I have to say that EVERY country is obsessed by the weather. Here in Italy every other day there is an article in the papers about the heat. It makes me Hmm, as, you know, Italy+summer= very hot. And in the winter there are articles about how cold it is... well.

Ormiriathomimus · 10/07/2012 16:12

Agree! Yes it's raining. And? It's so pointless

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 10/07/2012 16:13

The kids wont melt but I might do....I dont do outside in the rain Wink

Ithinkitsjustme · 10/07/2012 16:13

I have NEVER moaned about teh weather - until this year. I usually have a go at people who do moan about it, it's not normally all that bad, but this year has been exceptional and my only hope is that it may still improve before the kids break up from school, and I may not have to put up with them moaning as well. We can't afford to go anywhere this year, and the thought of 5 kids banging their heads against the walls is sending my brain into meltdown already. You can take 5 year olds out for a walk in the rain and make a game of jumping in muddy puddles etc, but just try doing that with a bunch of teeneagers!!

Ormiriathomimus · 10/07/2012 16:13

And because of all the rain everywhere looks so beautiful. Really lush and green and gorgeous. Like spring but more so.

YouOldSlag · 10/07/2012 16:14

I know that, but kids with asthma suffer a little bit more when they're wet and cold. (My DS for instance)

Oh yes another important point- no they don't melt but it just doesn't feel very nice and it's not very enjoyable.

I get really annoyed when people think that I'm being precious by staying in during a downpour. I don't take my kids out in the rain (much) because it's not pleasurable!

Francagoestohollywood · 10/07/2012 16:14

No, kids don't melt. It is the adults... I remember a particularly wet summer in the UK (I think it was our last summer), my mood was just horrendous.

SandyBottoms · 10/07/2012 16:23

youoldslag we are just about paying our bills. Just have to get out there and do what you can while you can. Through winter it's daydreaming about the summer and a bit of heat that gets us through... get to summer and there's no heat at all.

Sassybeast · 10/07/2012 16:25

Low pollen counts ?
No hose pipe bans ?
No sunburned toddlers ?
No sweaty topless blokes with sandals and shorts?
No wasps ? (Just realised I haven't seen one all summer)

There must be more 'rain is good' stuff we can use to cheer ourselves up ? Grin

YABU that's what we do in the UK :)

WerthersUnOriginal · 10/07/2012 16:34

Yabu. We can moan about what we like thankyouverymuch.

Threelittleducks · 10/07/2012 16:50

I for one am happy with the no wasps situation. Maybe this will extinct them.
(hopeful)

Sassybeast · 10/07/2012 17:08

'Imagines a world without wasps and prays for more rain' Wink

Oh, this blomin' rain, when will it end.

Hark at my frizzy hair and damp garments.

Grin
Jiggleballs123 · 10/07/2012 17:41

YABU we can all moan about whatever we choose and if it's not the weather we'd have to moan about the kids.

BasilDonna · 10/07/2012 17:44

I rather like it.

ariadne1 · 10/07/2012 17:48

maybe you'[re depressed about the weather?

OddBoots · 10/07/2012 17:48

Some people just can't function without a good moan, they'd be moaning regardless.

Empusa · 10/07/2012 17:51

YABU - I suffer with SAD, summer is a time of relief for me. This summer? Not so much. Sick of the greyness. I hate looking out the window and seeing huge black clouds all the time.

Sassybeast · 10/07/2012 17:53

Ariadne - I bloomin' am now Grin

I was in town for about 45 minutes and went into 5 shops. 5 people at the till in front of me moaning about the weather, then 5 shop assistants moaning about the weather. Then my friends mother in law cornered me in Boots. That's ELEVEN people moaning in the space of 45 minutes Sad
I prefer to moan about things that I have an element of control over. Like damp undergarments....
