He's showing you how easy it is to make soda bread, I get interested as I like making soda bread. First thing he says in his very enthusiastic, excited delivery is, 'why walk to the shops to get your butter when you can make your own so much faster' - then goes on to make said butter with list of ingredients and hey voila, 5 mins later you have your own butter (only i know it would take me at least 30 mins). And as i always have butter in fridge, why would i bother?

AIBU to want to reach into the telly and slap him with smelly kipper.

Yeah. reach into my fridge, that's what's there alright.

I thought everybody had a butter churn out in the back garden No ok then Grin

I laugh at leftover things too just throw them all together and there you go salmon thai fishcakes with lemon grass and pea foam Wink

I do want 1 of these telly kitchen ovens though it goes it and seconds later it comes out steaming hot like magic

Did he make butter by shaking ingredients inside a jam jar?

Hownoobrooncoo · 10/07/2012 13:39

Don't know, I could only hear it from the kitchen as it was too scary to watch.

Did he get the milk from Buttercup just in from wandering the flower meadows? If not he is little better than McDonalds.

He must live in that world where Sophie Dahl eats bread & butter pudding and fairies do Nigells'a washing up. The one where we all but fresh organic veggies on the way home and our kids wear white linen.

Slap away.

Mrsjay · 10/07/2012 13:42

Maybe he just shook buttercup and butter came out Grin

I watched Jamie Oliver make butter by over-whipping double cream in a food processor - whip it long enough and it becomes butter. Then you put in a bit of sea salt if you want salted butter, and hey presto. I really want to give that a go one day.

I used to joke about Delia Smith, that if she was making a tuna and mayo sandwich, she would have to make the mayonnaise, and the bread, and buy a piece of tuna steak, and cook it (not that there is anything wrong with any of those things, but just to illustrate how, to my mind, she always overcomplicated things). Then she went completely the other way and started using horrible things like tinned mince...

GnocchiNineDoors · 10/07/2012 14:35

Gino did a quick make your own lunch today and it actually was easy and sensible and stuff that most people had in.

HecateHarshPants · 10/07/2012 14:42

I know, How. The shame, the shame...

Vixxen · 10/07/2012 14:53

Who has time for any of that? Just get a gigantic tub of Stork and crack on :o

Dd made butter in Kindergarten, they had to pass the jar around and shake till it turned to butter and then got to eat it on some bread they had made. They seemed to enjoy it. I never went in to help on "cooking" day.
