My wonderful fiancé lurks on this forum while feeding our son and today is her birthday. Whilst my behaviour is normally good and my present buying is normally excellent I'm afraid this year I have let myself down badly.

I'm so sorry that I didn't buy a card for you to open this morning and that the present situation fell so far below the standard you deserve.

While I'm apologising I'm sorry that when I took you out for the day on Sunday I complained so much about my legs hurting from walking around and then made a rude face behind your aunts back.

Please don't listen if they all tell you to leave me. I love you x

What did you buy her?

Frontpaw · 09/07/2012 17:24

Did she know about the rude face?$
You are for it now! Quick - to the corner shop of apology choccies and flowers!

OP I find a man who cleans the toilet very sexy. Just saying.

Also, do not attempt to make up for it by buying large ostentatious present that she doesn't like, slightly resents you spending so much on, but can't tell you for fear of sounding ungrateful

KatherineKavanagh · 09/07/2012 17:31

Yes, there was a thread about this! Her version of events are slightly different, you had better watch out... She has plans!

OlaRapaceFru · 09/07/2012 17:33

Yeah, you're right, we could say to your fiancee "leave the bastard" Grin

But what others say - try and redeem yourself :

Thanks = flowers
Wine = um, well, wine
chocs
cook supper/get a takeaway

you get the drift?!

Vixxen · 09/07/2012 17:41

You better get romancing fast! A woman scorned and all that...

Sorrytodw · 09/07/2012 17:43

It's not so much what I did or didn't buy, Its the obvious lack of effort on my part. We spent the afternoon in Bluewater buying some clothes. The lack of card was the worst thing. She saw me making a stupid face although there really wasn't any malice involved.

Run her a relaxing bath, with a glass of her favourite wine, whilst you clean the house (to her standards Wink )
that should get some brownie points back.
And in future sign up to a card website such as funky pidgeon, card town or moonpig - they email alerts on the run up to the day (even if you only use it for a reminder and buy the card elsewhere).
How do I know about that? For the last 3 weeks DH had emails to his phone reminding him of our anniversary, and he didn't forget this year!

WorraLiberty · 09/07/2012 17:55

Oh god I'm cringing for her

Just tell her you're sorry.

quoteunquote · 09/07/2012 18:04

what are you cooking her for dinner?

HecateHarshPants · 09/07/2012 19:03

oh dear.

Just tell HER you muppet Grin

buy her flowers and choc and grovel to her.

Noqontrol · 09/07/2012 19:06

Disgusting behaviour. I think she should leave you Smile you'd better redeem yourself quickly. A bottle or two of expensive bubbly usually does it for me. Plus a lie in and breakfast in bed in the morning.

Dprince · 09/07/2012 19:43

Oh bless. Was the rude face funny and/or deserved? Just wanted to ask.
If my dh got me flowers I would be pissed. However dh knows I don't like them. Jewellery always does it for me. Doesn't have to be expensive (although I wouldn't complain if it was), but the apology is nice. But follow it up.

Dozer · 09/07/2012 19:46

You bought her clothes? That she chose? Sounds like a lovely gift to me!

Yanbu. Yanbu also for moaning about sore legs ( shopping is tiring) and for making faces at the aunt-in-law.

Yabu, however, for failure to give a card.

MammaTJ · 09/07/2012 19:51

Well, coming on here to apologise and risk a flaming is a good start!!

Happy birthday to your lady. Good luck to you.

CurrySpice · 09/07/2012 19:57

Aww well I think it's sweet!

Happy birthday MissSorry!

GlassofRose · 09/07/2012 20:14

I actually read this and thought Awww and I'm usually a firm believer that sympathy is in the dictionary between shit and syphilis.

Never forget a card! It's the one thing we wont forgive ya for.

Sassybeast · 09/07/2012 20:19

How rude was the rude face ? And who saw it?

CurrySpice · 09/07/2012 20:33

I once did a big Flicking the Massive Vs dance behind my ex's back as he retreated into the conservatory during a row, forgetting he could see me perfectly reflected in all of the windows
