My company has just announced that it wants the dept I work in to work 3 shifts around the Olympics, for business purposes. Most of the shifts will be 2-10 and 5-1am. AIBU to expect this to have been done months ago? Don't they realise working mothers plan summer hols like military operations, starting in about April? Anyone else in this position?

Does your contract say that you will work shifts?
If so does it include night/early morning shifts?
Have you worked them before?

Your employer can't unilaterally change your contract. It's a matter of negotiation and if necessary suitable compensation like the huge bribes those greedy bastard train drivers have demanded by threatening strikes
