Okay... I am overworked, stressed and comfort eat or eat too much sugar and caffeine to stay awake... I an about 5 stone overweight but also a yo-yo dieter... I typically manage a month and lose about a stone but fall back into old habits..

I keep thinking about gastric band hypnotherapy and groupon currently has a deal but will it work?

My will power around food is pants!! Will this help or will the only pounds i loose be financial pounds??

YANBU but yes, the only pounds you lose will be out of your wallet. :) Recommend you tackle the sugar and caffeine habit at their root i.e. get more sleep, and make an effort to eat better food but less of it. If anything, it should cost less than it does now.

There are quite a few of us doing the Sue Peckham one that you can get as an iphone/ipad/ipod touch app or on CD/Download and getting on well with it.

thread here

I would love to get more sleep but dh wakes me a few times a night if i snore (allergic rhinitus and asthma - taking meds, and i know losing weight will help), his snoring/farting, dead arms (seeing an osteopath for trapped nerves) plus dd (2.5) wakes from 6am onwards.... And stress (2 part time jobs plus finishing my PhD, running the house and dsd/ds/dd.....)

But the sugar is something i really need to tackle - any tips?

I'll have a look at the sue peckham one....

YABU

If you believe that hypnotherapy will do something useful, do a bit of research and choose some tapes (CDs, MP3s, whatever) based on an informed decision, not based on what Groupon tells you.

ButternutSquish · 08/07/2012 17:33

No, not being un-reasonable!

I've lost 7.5 stone via a gastro hypno band. But you do have to want to do it and also it isn't a magic pill. The hypnosis supports you desire to lose weight, and not the other way around. PM if you'd like to know more

trixymalixy · 08/07/2012 17:35

My sister did a groupon hypnotherapy session, not the tapes and has lost about 3 stone.

scottishmummy · 08/07/2012 17:36

its a lot of hooey. you dont need tapes
you need a structured plan that you stick to
look at your triggers, your pattern why you eat the way you do

MaxineQuordlepleen · 08/07/2012 17:47

Borrow Paul McKenna from the library and try it out before you spend lots of money!

You cab buy the same thing for a lot lot cheaper on amazon. I got one for £6.99 after googling about it when i saw it on groupon last time for sale

Graciescotland · 08/07/2012 18:16

I did a stop smoking hypnotherapy session once ten years ago. It might be "hooey" but it worked for me. You have to want to quit though.

scottishmummy · 08/07/2012 18:26

key point being wanted to stop
so the treatment was placebo, total hooey.no tape can replicate or replace willpower
what worked was desire to change

newyearnewattitude · 08/07/2012 18:29

Okay... I've downloaded the iphone app which was £5. (the groupon deal is £39!) and i'll give it a really good go! Fingers crossed

I do think there's more to it than that scottishmummy. There's an element of psychological manipulation which can enable you to overcome cravings/ addiction. Good luck!

scottishmummy · 09/07/2012 18:36

placebo is proven intervention
volition and desire to change is also required to facilitate any change
no tapes,or dvd or somesuch can help unless one wants to facilitate that change

Kayano · 09/07/2012 18:42

Anything with the words hypno in it.... I am all for!

Changed my life. It wasn't for weightloss but it did what no amount of rational thinking or willpower could overcome

scottishmummy · 09/07/2012 18:51

hypno,schypno.its placebo
hypnosis didnt do the trick
you did the hard work, and hypno placebo gave you the shuve, the confidence you needed
