To swig mouthwash straight from the bottle?

..because when you pour it into the lid-cup thing it always dribbles a bit down the outside of bottle when you put the lid back on. And it's quicker Grin

I figure that as it's designed to kill mouth bacteria, and as it's just me and DH using it (and we kiss each other anyway), it's ok.

Or am I a manky slattern?

I never use the lid. I've always swigged it from the bottle, in fact, I didn't realise the lid was for that purpose as well as being a lid Blush

hatesponge · 08/07/2012 10:18

YANBU, I always swig it from the bottle, agree saves spilling it everywhere.

However I accept that I am generally a manky slattern Grin so my opinion may not be a good guide!

Fireandashes · 08/07/2012 10:32

YANBU. As far as I'm concerned, the lid is only there to stop it evaporating.

MedusaIsHavingABadHairDay · 08/07/2012 10:35

Doesn't everyone swig from the bottle?! Confused

stookiesackhouse · 08/07/2012 10:40

YABVU. I am v anal with our mouthwash. I insist that like me, DP uses it from the lid then rinses said lid afterwards.

I still catch him swigging it from the bottle though Angry

It's the thought of swigging saliva that makes me feel yuk.

:o

Gentleness · 08/07/2012 11:18

I'm not sure the mouthwash will kill all the bacteria you get round the sides of the bottle, but then I don't know why drinking from the lid should be any better? I don't wash the lid, just rinse it in cold water. I'd still find it a bit grim to share a bottle that way. If dh and share a bottle of drink, it's all gone in a short time and no chance for the bacteria to multiply.

hipposaurus · 08/07/2012 11:24

Yanbu, I swig from the bottle for the same reason as you.

HeadfirstForRomance · 08/07/2012 11:41

I am a leaving the pegs on the line and not rewashing rained on clothes type of slattern and even I use the lid and rinse it afterwards Grin

Five of us use it and I don't fancy sharing their saliva.

SoleSource · 08/07/2012 11:56

Reported. To the police. Twenty five years and no mouthwash at all in the slammer.

Whatmeworry · 08/07/2012 12:26

Just don't spit it back in if you share...

letsblowthistacostand · 08/07/2012 13:37

DH does this. I think it's kind of disgusting, so I have my own carefully hidden bottle of mouthwash which is vv clean.

AngryAnderson · 08/07/2012 14:49

No, dh and I are swiggers too, also from the same bottle too. But then I am also a "never clean the kitchen floor but still eat food off it' manky slattern :)

katykuns · 08/07/2012 14:55

I have always swigged from the bottle, but to be fair, my DP doesn't use mouthwash, so it is only me using it.

You would still get bacteria on the lid...

MrsBucketxx · 08/07/2012 14:57

there is only me that uses it so i swig. manky bottle otherwise

VolAuVent · 08/07/2012 14:58

YABU. Your bacteria will be sitting in the bottle multiplying, and the mouthwash will gradually be more saliva, less mouthwash.

That's what happens with a can of coke as well, but you tend to drink it all within a short space of time so it's not sitting around festering.

VolAuVent · 08/07/2012 14:59

And katy don't people wash the lid afterwards?

BellaVita · 08/07/2012 14:59

I too swig!

cantspel · 08/07/2012 15:03

we are a family of swiggers and as there is 4 of us using a bottle it only lasts a week so it doesn't sit around festering. I cant see how you get siliva in it unless you spit it back in the bottle.

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 08/07/2012 15:53

YANBU Dh and i both swig.

mistressploppy · 08/07/2012 19:13

Grin at 'family of swiggers'

I use the lid and then rinse it with hot water afterwards. Swigging from the bottle is not allowed in our house! Grin
