I have seen this so many times on threads when posters are roasted for making minor grammar and spelling mistakes. On some threads it goes on and on and on.
I for one have crap grammar and spelling so maybe i'm being sensitive. I have also noticed posters are usually toasted on this when their comments are not agreed on. Am BU?

I would rather hang out with the thick lazy posters than the pompous oafs.

Mrsjay · 08/07/2012 13:50

Oh you can hang out with me usual Grin

TroLoLoLo · 08/07/2012 13:50

amicissimma I don't think the thread is about the odd correction of an incorrectly spelt word, I think it is about when people go on and on about and do so in an unpleasant way in order to belittle the person who made the mistake. A recent thread where this is evident is a thread where the OP used 'loose' instead of 'lose' in the thread title. It was an argumentative thread and other posters went on and on about the spelling mistake.

absolutely sure there will be a spelling or grammar mistake in there somewhere

thick people are the happiest Grin

Disclaimer not being able to spell does not make you thick Smile

usualsuspect · 08/07/2012 13:54

I know it doesn't make you thick, I was joking.

I will admit to being lazy though.

iklboo · 08/07/2012 13:55

My JOB is correcting spelling mistakes & errors in grammar. Which is why I do it at work and not on MN. Yes, it can be a bit grating to read, but I don't know if the OP has dyslexia, or whether English isn't their first language, for example. I do post about errors in signs or in print, though. The girl can't help it! BlushWink

Mrsjay · 08/07/2012 13:55

yeah iw as joking too Grin

usualsuspect · 08/07/2012 13:56

Fair enough in signs and print.

On MN, no need imo

iklboo · 08/07/2012 13:57

Spell check doesn't always work. Otherwise I wouldn't have received a letter from a consultant about a patient with ASPARAGUS syndrome.

usualsuspect · 08/07/2012 13:59

Grin @ asparagus syndrome

Sometimes when I'm typing quickly even spellchecker doesn't have a clue what I'm on about.

Mrsjay · 08/07/2012 14:01

I get a lot of red/green squiggles under my typing I just ignore it , is red spelling and green grammar ?

Mrsjay · 08/07/2012 14:01

oh thanks for the Brew

usualsuspect · 08/07/2012 14:03

Thanks for the Brew

If someones being friendly or supportive and makes me laugh on MN, thats good enough for me.

CakeMeIAmYours · 08/07/2012 14:12

I'm aware that I'm probably the only person who thinks this, but correcting peoples' mistakes is friendly and supportive.

If you make these mistakes in real life, people will judge you and laugh at you behind your back. Nobody corrects others for the good of their health, but to save them the embarrassment of doing it in 'public'.

I'm still cringing at the woman at work who sent an email to the whole office which contained the phrase 'to all intense and purposes'. I swear the hoots of derisive laughter could be heard from outside the building.

Don't you think she would have preferred someone quietly pointing out her mistake, rather than for her to make such a career-limiting error in such a public fashion?

CakeMeIAmYours · 08/07/2012 14:15

I get a lot of red/green squiggles under my typing I just ignore it , is red spelling and green grammar

To me this says that you have poor IT literacy (because you don't understand what the squiggles mean) and are lazy (because you ignore them).

Do you really want people to think of you in this way?

usualsuspect · 08/07/2012 14:17

This is not work, and quite frankly if someone took the piss out of me for a spelling mistake I wouldn't want to be friends with them.

Correcting someones mistakes on MN, is not friendly and supportive.

My ex-boss sent round a shouty email about someone sending an 'insecure' email.

'Does my bum look big in this font?'Grin

LRDtheFeministDragon · 08/07/2012 14:20

cakeme, isn't it much more supportive to expose the ignorance and narrow-mindedness of people who judge on such silly grounds?

The reason for my sarcasm about spellcheckers is that they are hardly a solution to the problem, and your post came across as if you really thought it was that simple.

usualsuspect · 08/07/2012 14:20

People correct others because it makes them feel all clever, like.

Mrsjay · 08/07/2012 14:22

cake you are taking the piss right Confused

Abra1d · 08/07/2012 14:24

I'm sorry, I have to laugh when people go on about how important it is to send children to grammer and independant schools to keep standards up.

usualsuspect · 08/07/2012 14:24

I think she must be, well I hope she is anyway
