To be worried about my partner going to work

a week after my c section? I might be as I am scared and tired and possibly irrational. Having ELCS on Thursday. Never had a section before, but gather its very painful afterwards. My partner will be on patenity leave officially, but told me today that he's planning to go into work on the following Friday as it is the last day of term and his year six class' last day, and his head teacher "thinks it would be nice" if he was there to do their leavers' assembly.

I want to tell him no bloody chance, but WIBU?

I had EMCS in March and although DP had 2 weeks off I asked him to go out for half a day after a week so I could try out being on my own. I would say make sure he helps you to get everything organised before he goes out - sandwich ready in the fridge, no housework to do, magazine in hand etc. Is there a friend or neighbour you can have on standby just in case you need a hand with anything?

At 1 week DS was napping for most of the day so you shouldn't have too much to do. Just relax, you'll probably find you enjoy it! I always think I end up with more to do when DP is here :)

Good luck for Thursday Cathy, the waiting is the worst bit, the actual op isn't a bad as you think or I would have had 4 eek :)

HeadfirstForRomance · 08/07/2012 14:14

Who isn't allowed it wellies?

janji · 08/07/2012 15:02

Could he just go into work for the assembly / half a day?

welliesandpyjamas · 08/07/2012 15:37

Vol - from ACAS website: "To qualify you will have to be an employee and worked continuously for your employer for 26 weeks ending with the 15th week before the baby is due". Anyone outside of that (new employees, short term contract or temporary workers, etc) wouldn't get it.

BTW, am very aware that text on a screen does not always convey the sentiment in which it is delivered (causes so many problems, not just on MN, right?!) so just to clarify, I am not being confrontational with you :)

marshmallowpies · 08/07/2012 15:38

VolauVent my DH is self employed and works 2 days a week on a short term contract at a well known bank and 3 days a week on his own projects.

On his contract, he's not entitled to any paternity leave so he had to take those days as holiday from the bank.

As far as his own work was concerned, he was able to check email from time to time and I think did the odd bit of work on his laptop while baby and I were sleeping.

The time off he took for paternity leave means we probably can't have a summer holiday this year (we did have a week for our honeymoon in Feb before the baby was born) as he can't take any more time off.

On balance, though, better that he was there for those 2 weeks than we have a holiday. Just one of those things....

X-post marshmallow :)

Oh gosh yes, I think YABU. But I also understand why you are feeling a bit skittish about it.

It's just for a day though. You won't be on your own for that long.

I think it would be quite unfair to stamp your feet about this one tbh.

Joiningthegang · 08/07/2012 21:56

I too have have 3 sections - if all is ok you will be fine - as others have said it won't be a long day and you could ask a friend over for lunch.

Make sure you take pain relief before you are really hurting!!!

Cathycomehome · 27/07/2012 00:11

Hi, quick update for all who helped/ reassured...

So he went to work and, as you all predicted, all was absolutely fine Grin

If it helps reassure any other stupidly nervous people having sections in near future, op was also absolutely fine, and recovery so far remarkably easy.

Son 2 is two weeks old, and gorgeous ( not biased at all, obviously)

Ahhh, thank you for the update and congratulations!! Grin

SamsGoldilocks · 27/07/2012 07:37

Sometimes its better to worry about the possibilities in advance so when you get to the event it isn't as bad as it seemed.

So glad to hear your news about your son and coping without dh. At least he's on holiday now and you can enjoy your baby together.

whois · 27/07/2012 07:38

It's only a day, see how you feel after the CS?

EnglishGirlApproximately · 27/07/2012 09:36

Congratulations!!!
