Bit of back story. DH and I bought a lovely 2 bed groundfloor flat several years ago for an ok price not realising the lease was at around 70 years.

We had no problems getting mortgage as we were very sensible in relation to out incomes IYSWIM (our friends were buying houses with huge monthly repayments)

We now have one DD and have been trying to sell our property for months! The bloody lease stands at 63ish years and we have adjusted the price of sale in accordance with the cost of extending the lease.

Its just not happening!? Aibu to want to tear my bloody hair out and bawl my eyes out because we just don't have the time or money to extend the lease now.. Is there anything you think we can do - anyone know about leases!?
Sorry this is so long btw!

This happened to friends of mine (although they knew when buying lease length - now sure how this didn't show up in searches Confused ). When they came to sell they extended the lease and were able to sell okay. They were advised to go ahead and do the legal work because anything potentially 'unknown' like this makes buyers run.

I'm surprised you got a mortgage easily on a lease that length, and why on earth did you not check the lease, or at least extend it before now?! A 63 year old lease will definitely put most house buyers off, not least because of the potential difficulty in getting a mortgage. I'd extend the lease yourself, just get a solicitor and get it done.

Extending the lease isn't a big expense, that will make a huge difference.
