Everywhere, all around you. They are looking, They're in your office chattering about immigration, they're in your local shop judging a black guy for the amount of money they have in there wallet, assuming criminality. They are possibly even your friends. AIBU in thinking even apologists are racist scum?

Being 26 isn't an excuse for being pig ignorant. Most of the people who died on those wars you consider boring were younger than you.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 07/07/2012 15:36

Those boring little wars are still impacting us now.
You are 26 not 12 ffs.
The programmes are only 'endless' if you chose to turn on the history channels.
I am sure if you stuck to E! Entertainment you will be safe from the horrible influence of education.

MarigoldsInTheWindow · 07/07/2012 15:39

what is E!?

just because something is important dousnt make it immune from being boring.

amillionyears · 07/07/2012 15:41

I think part of the problem is history education.I have no desire whatsoever to be political,or educational, but history is not a very big part of school education anymore.
There are now a large number of young people,Marigolds age and younger, who think Churchill is the nodding dog in the back of the car,in adverts.I cant remember the percentage, but many many young people have no idea who Churchill was.
Marigolds,I think you have to try and imagine what it was like, and a visit or 2 to some war museums may open your eyes a bit more.

thebody · 07/07/2012 15:48

Marigold, visit the battle of Britain bases in Kent where the pilots, far younger than u, waited to go up and face the nazi planes.

Their doodles and letters are on display.

As a family visiting we all cried.

You are 26. You can spout your views that the war was ' boring' because many people younger than you gave their lives.

I think you should be ashamed of yourself.

Chubfuddler · 07/07/2012 15:51

Marigold is six years younger than me. Her age is no excuse.

Chubfuddler · 07/07/2012 15:52

And only boring people are bored, marigold.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 07/07/2012 15:55

You thinking something is boring doesn't make it so.
And surely if something is important we shouldn't ignore it.
I am sure you are lovely in RL but on her you are coming across a bit vapid.

MarigoldsInTheWindow · 07/07/2012 16:08

A million years i think we need to make history more interesting. I LOVED history at school and when I was at uni I did a couple of modules in history i could never have hoped to have learnt at school.

There just this thing with the wws. I just switch off.
I have visited war museums, didnt help.

MarigoldsInTheWindow · 07/07/2012 16:11

chubfuddler, really? i think we know thats not true.

HoneyDragonWearingLederhosen · 07/07/2012 16:12

Lots of people switch off when it comes to genocide. That's why genocide happens. That's why history repeats itself. Because people don't take an interest and learn, right up until loved ones are dying.

MarigoldsInTheWindow · 07/07/2012 16:13

ohdo- it makes it boring to me. thats all i said, not that you should find it so. just that i do.

Just because i dont enjoy hearing about the ww dousnt make me vapid, just not interested in ww.

and i couldnt give an arse, ive had a shit day and im waiting til i can go home from work.

Chubfuddler · 07/07/2012 16:18

I'm sorry there wasn't an exciting theme park element to the war museums you visited to engage your interest more.

HoneyDragonWearingLederhosen · 07/07/2012 16:19

Chub there is at Duxford if you trip on the stairs and roll into the tanks it could have happened to anyone Blush

MarigoldsInTheWindow · 07/07/2012 16:19

never been to a theme park.
what ever picture your trying to paint, you are very wrong.
I didnt use my age as an excuse i was asked how old i was i said 26. full stop.

amillionyears · 07/07/2012 16:19

perhaps just 1 more question from me.Do you care about what all those people did ,for you and your childrenand for me and my children?

Psammead · 07/07/2012 16:19

I think Marigold has got the message.

Not everyone finds everything fascinating.

Psammead · 07/07/2012 16:22

Those people gave us freedom. Which includes the freedom to not really care all that much.

Sorry, I think that history is incredibly important and interesting, but not everyone is the same.

MarigoldsInTheWindow · 07/07/2012 16:22

I dont not care.

Dawndonna · 07/07/2012 16:27

The burns treatments we use now were learnt in the world wars.
The antibiotic treatments we use now were learnt in the world wars.
Our economy is still affected by the world wars.
It really is quite important to know something about them, however young you are.

HoneyDragonWearingLederhosen · 07/07/2012 16:28

True, but getting annoyed at it being on the TV on Armistice day and such on a day for the survivors makes me annoyed.

It is history and yet it isn't as many many people remain affected still. Smile

And the marching home comments etc upset me, but I respect Marigold and anyone else has a right to be disinterested, but I think being dismissive is if not wrong, insensitive.

bitofcheese · 07/07/2012 16:33

marigold - just read your insensitive post above, i take it you are not a jew or a Pole' etc, clearly you didn't lose any relations in the war. fucking rude

MarigoldsInTheWindow · 07/07/2012 16:39

I suppose if you have a link to it it would mean more.
I dont even know what Armstice day is (sorry).

The marching does annoy me, il be honest but im sure it means a whole lot more to some one else than it annoys me.
I just cant see it the way some of you do, that dousnt mean i wasnt horrified by the Sri Lankan killings or anything less.
It is something to do with just the WWS. It was probably school actually.

I didnt mean to make anyone feel like I dont care, its not that its just I really dont find it interesting.

Chubfuddler · 07/07/2012 16:41

If you don't know what armistice day is perhaps you should find out, instead of wearing your ignorance like a badge.

MarigoldsInTheWindow · 07/07/2012 16:42

seriously? im ignorant because I dont feel the same way you do?

no, ive never heard of it.
