I sew as a hobby. I have altered wedding dresses for friends, made clothes for my DD, repair things for friends. Quite good, not a bit crap!!

My friend, one of my closest friends, mentioned she had lost so much weight, the dress she bought for her DB wedding is too big. They hadn't had the next size down in the shop anyway.

I said I would alter it for her. Come Thursday morning!!! She turned up, I attacked dress with quick unpick. She said 'oh, I thought you were just going to kind of fold it and sew it, not rip it apart, hope you don't fuck it up'

Am I BU with my comment 'I could throw this dress at you and stab you with the quick unpick'

She seemed to think it was ok!! Grin

I like the sound of her.

Better than staring at you with a horrified look on her face, surely?

whenyouseeitwaveorcheer · 05/07/2012 20:38

Sorry,I meant to add one of these: Grin

MammaTJ · 05/07/2012 20:42

Oh, she had the horrified face too!!! She really was expecting me to fold it and sew it. I wanted to do a proper job on it!!

I sewed all her sons clothes labels for boarding school, so she does really know I can sew. I am her first only port of call for all things needlework!!!

Your boyfriend was mean to make you contribute £1 towards the chips. Leave the b*stard! ..No, wait, the Double Decker date sounds good.

MammaTJ · 05/07/2012 20:46

HUH?

WithoutCaution · 05/07/2012 20:47

I'd just be glad that A) You knew what you were doing and B) Were willing to do it for me :)

WithoutCaution · 05/07/2012 20:48

To be honest my mum is my only port of call. I should probably learn...

MammaTJ · 05/07/2012 20:50

You've either got it, or you haven't!! Grin

NunOnTheRun · 05/07/2012 20:51

Apologies, OP, if I am being unreasonable a vile cynic

WithoutCaution · 05/07/2012 20:55

NunOnTheRun what are you on about?

MammaTJ · 05/07/2012 20:56

Not quite sure why you would post that!! I think you are being vague at the very least!! Maybe you need to be specific if you are trying to make a point!!!

Nunontherun has just come from the same thread as me about an OP whose OH won't pay for her chips, tries to entice her to eat choccy when she's trying to be good and idea of a date is down the newsagent for a double decker.

If you actually had stabbed her with unpicker that would have been unreasonable OP as it would probably have got blood all over the dress. :)
You were very well mannered about it IMO.

MammaTJ · 05/07/2012 21:06

I did not actually stab her. I told her that it would ne a reasonable thing to do. Also throwing the dress at her. I love her to bits, she one of my closest friends, but she dared do diss my sewing skills!!

MammaTJ · 05/07/2012 21:19

cureall that is a bit mad!

different thread I know where chips person is from....

RuthlessBaggage · 05/07/2012 23:37

Sewing on name tapes doesn't make you a dressmaker.

Maybe she is expecting to get fat or pregnant and wants the option to let the dress back out again. A "proper" alteration wouldn't permit that.

I think YABa bitU not to explain explicitly how you were going to do the alteration before taking something sharp to it. But complaining about how someone does you a favour is U too!

MammaTJ · 06/07/2012 06:09

The name tapes don't but I think the fact that I have altered wedding dresses does though!!

OP posts:
lovebunny · 06/07/2012 06:18

i'm impressed that anyone has that level of skill.

RuthlessBaggage · 06/07/2012 19:42

She hasn't seen that. And it was the "proof" in your op... Wink

I suspect it is more likely she is so unaware of needle techniques she had no clue what you would do. Which is why I think I would have explained my plan before getting the sharps out, IYSWIM.
