As a result of the No Sugar thread, I have realised that I can't cook. Not one bit. No siree.

I need help.

These are the rules:

  1. No cheese of any kind.
  2. No meat
  3. Not more than two pots for any one dish
  4. Mustn't take hours
  5. No cheese.

Thank you please help me.

I mean two SSs. There will still be words but not mentioning that.

That's a pretty big fail Exit Grin If you don't cook spices the food just tastes a bit powdery.

PissyDust · 05/07/2012 17:53

If you like spicy vegetable dishes, this has oodles of simple veg dishes - Madhur Jaffrey's Eastern Vegetarian Cookery (inc Middle East and China/Japan as well as subcontinental Asia):

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/0099777207

Some of it would probably work with couscous Smile

LaQ it's beautiful, I particularly like the mouses back shimmering sequins, and the elephants breath pashmina is to die for. Not to mention the Pointing kitten heels.

Veloute is like gravy. But white. HTH

Baked potatoes

1 potato per person
veg/olive oil
salt and pepper

put a little oil and the salt and pepper in a bowl, add the potatoes and move them around a bit so they end up completely coated.

Get a knife and cut a cross into the potatoes - it needs tobe quite deep - about half way through the potato.

Put in the oven and leave for 1 hour (unless you do new/salad potatoes then 40mins)

Take them out with a teatowel, through the reatowel push the bottom together and the potato will 'burst' where the cross is - looks very pncy.

Passatta - buy passatta and tinned beans / pulses. Empty 2/3 tins of different pulses into a pan, add the passatta, salt and pepper and herbs if you like and heat. On the hob is fine, but in the oven cooked more slowly tastes better.

Vegetable Chilli

selection of veggies you like (butternut squash, sweet potato, corgette works well) chop small, quorn is nice too
1 onion
1 pint veg stock
1 tin toms
some tomato puree
1 tin pinto beans
cumin
oregano
chilli powder
rice

fry onions till clear add veg or quorn, add tomatoes and tomato puree add some stock depending on weather you like thick chilli or not, add beans. add loads of cumin and oregano (trust me) little bit of chilli powder, bring to boil then simmer.

cook rice and eat

cooking time 30mins

I have fussy non-vegetable eating veggie kids. Last night I made what has been named pizza pie.

  1. Preheat oven to 200/220. Stick big baking sheet in oven
  2. Unfurl just roll puff pastry sheet
  3. Undo seeds of change stir through sauce and spread over pastry leaving a 2cm border.
  4. Add toppings of choice (sweetcorn at kids end, artichokes for adults)
  5. sprinkle with basil (and cheese for us)
  6. Bake for 20 mins and serve with salad, veg, spuds as required

Was very popular and involved minimal cooking

Just add Chinese 5 spice to everything. Tis my secret, my husband thinks I can cook, I can't really....it's the spice. Grin

Ideas for fab tomato pasta sauces here

marriedinwhite · 06/07/2012 17:30

smoked salmon pasta

Spaghetti (for 4) - bring to boil

In pan 2:
2 finely chopped shallots
half glass dry white wine
juice of one lemon
small carton single cream
1 pckt smoked salmon trimmings
snipped fresh dill

Combine cooked pasta and sauce.

Green or mixed salad on the side.

4 haddock, cod or halibut steaks
1 finely sliced red onion
two finely sliced courgettes
4 skinned and seeded tomatoes
shake of tabasco
(lightly fry the onion and courgettes in a pan with 1tbs of olive oil)
Bung the lot in a casserole dish with a lid

Serve with mashed potato

Noodle and mixed veg stir fry - lots of nice sauces on the shelves near the veg
Yummy with lightly fried, (ie, one spoon of olive oil) tuna or salmon steaks

Basic tomato sauce
with pasta

or with quorn mince stuffed marrow

Baked stuffed potatoes - ham, onion, baked egg, tuna - scoop out the flesh mash it with the flavourings, pile back in and brown in the oven - with lashings of well dressed salad.

Risotto
Arborio rice
Good veg stock (Marigold)
slug of wine if you like
spring onions
squeeze of lemon
green peas
could add a few prawns

Various omolettes
Souffle's (they are actually very very easy - and work nicely with smoked fish if you don't like cheese).

I love cooking though and can much about in the kitchen endlessly.

Every veggie dish that uses lentils or quorn tastes better with Geo Watkins mushroom ketchup. It's a bit like marmite, weird by itself but fantastic in other stuff.
Apologies for the tesco link, it was the first that showed up on google

Every veggie dish that uses lentils or quorn tastes better with bacon. Or chorizo.
