I can't stand her simpering Britney Spears voice?

Mute button?

OldGreyWiffleTest · 05/07/2012 12:42

I don't watch her matches, afraid I can't stand her. Same with Sharapova The Screamer. Can just about take 'Kevin' Andy Murray and his Kevin attitude, although I must say since he's been coached by Lendl he has improved enormously.

SoleSource · 05/07/2012 12:43

I am cheering for her to lose.

shoppingbagsundereyes · 05/07/2012 12:44

Mind you the other woman is a bit odd with her leggings and squeal

I love tennis and I don't want her to win again because it doesn't look great for the women's game if a part time (very part time) player with little match practice can turn up and win a Grand Slam against all the full timers. I've seen Serena play a number of times at Wimbledon - she's an amazingly powerful player but her game is so dull that I always go for strawberries at that point these days. On the other hand, the arrival of the Williams sisters forced all the women to up their game and if Serena wins again it may hopefully do the same again.

UserNameNotAvailable · 05/07/2012 12:53

I don't watch the tennis but df always comments on how unfair it must feel to the other player and that it must feel like they are playing against a bloke rather than a woman due to their size and power.

dalek · 05/07/2012 13:30

i think she is a marvellous role model. She has had a hard time with her health. I would love to see her win again.

Can't stand Sharapova - saw her play a few years ago and she was the most miserable player you could imagine - even though she was winning.

Re the men's game - still can't warm to Andy Murray although it would be fantastic for British test if he did.

That 's my twopenny worth!

blonderthanred · 05/07/2012 13:38

Love those Williams sisters. The other players are welcome to bulk up a bit if they're intimidated by her thighs or up their game if she's outshining them. Go Serena!

Donteventhinkaboutit · 05/07/2012 13:39

Oh, you are brave , have you seen how much grief the op of thread posted yesterday got for not wanting Murray to win. A lot of other posters were super super angry

Donteventhinkaboutit · 05/07/2012 13:41

With the women

Iggly · 05/07/2012 13:41

Why are people so down on the Williams sisters?! Because of their voice Hmm

May the best player win.

Losingitall · 05/07/2012 13:42

I love her because she is so the anti-stereotype of tennis players. And she's got a lovely fat bum, which makes me feel like we're sisters Grin

sarahtigh · 05/07/2012 14:38

I like serena if only for providing evidence that super fit does not need to mean super skinny.

but also her sister venus has a totally different physique and was brilliant too but has had injuries recently

hanahsaunt · 05/07/2012 14:51

That's mean. I also think she's a great role model is terms of physique, ability to dip in and out - she hasn't become so obsessed that the rest of life has passed her by. Her attitude seems healthy. And she plays great tennis!

DublinMammy · 05/07/2012 14:55

It's nice to see one of the Williams brothers sisters doing well again.....

mayorquimby · 05/07/2012 15:06

Off-topic but I'm in work so can't watch. What's the best "ticker" to keep me updated

HappyJoyful · 05/07/2012 15:09

ah interesting, perhaps because you've not actually mentioned you aren't cheering for her not to win you might survive (or the fact she's not a Brit) but yes you're 'brave'... maybe you'll get told you're being miserable or you're pathetic, childish, mean, sneering, spiteful a dick and an under achiever soon enough!

Saying you don't like her voice is sure to be as 'controversial' as implying as I did I didn't find him pleasant to watch..

She had a hard childhood don't you know... how dare you not think about that ?! I say with tongue in cheek.

Safire · 05/07/2012 15:21

Get over it, HappyJoyful!

KurriKurri · 05/07/2012 15:24

I like The Williams sisters - I think they've been great for women's tennis, and Serena is a beautiful woman IMO - with a wonderful athletic physique. But she has won quite a few times - I would be nice to see the Polish girl win - she seemed a lovely young woman when I saw her interviewed.

Considering the amount of training and dedication (not to mention money!) it takes to be a tennis champion, it's not surprising that Andy Murray some of them are a bit socially inept. I'm not a Murray fan, but I hope he does well, he's a Kevinny knob sometimes, but I'm getting a bit tired of Federer's oily charm, I bet he says things like 'hello ladeeeeees' in a Leslie Philips voice.

HappyJoyful · 05/07/2012 15:45

Safire, blimey, am I not allowed now to comment on another thread where someone mentions the grief I took for saying I didn't like AM.. it's not a big deal and I'm really can assure you I am 'over it' ... will I now be getting pulled up on anything I post on?!

Now you see I have nothing against serena's physique or part time tennis playing, I just have an irrational dislike of iddy biddy little girl voices in adult women- makes me want to shout at the telly
