To sell DSs XBox to pay for the orthodontic brace he has lost?

SoupDragon · 05/07/2012 09:21

Given that he's only had it 4 weeks as it was a replacement for the previous one he lost?
£165.
Twice.
In one fecking month.

I am actually planning to box it up and hide it in the loft rather than sell it BTW but it is the only thing that seems to have made any kind of impression wrt the cost.

He's 13.

I'd sell it to recoup losses so far and cancel any future treatment...he's obviously not taking it seriously at all

Mrsjay · 05/07/2012 09:25

TBh i would let him have squint teeth harsh i know but i had to do it with dd2 the orthadontist was getting so annoyed with her and i would have to pay for another replacement , her teeth are not really bad with just 1 sqint tooth ,

SoupDragon · 05/07/2012 09:27

I can't give up on the treatment - it cost over £4k! All that initial cost has been paid for and sadly I'm not prepared to write that and 5 years of hell off.

He's now on "holding treatment" until he finishes growing - he only has to wear the bloody thing at night now.

oh well no dont stop it DD got NHS treatment but i had to pay when she lost braces and she wasnt really doing the brace properly, cant he find it at all if he has only to wear it at night it must be somewhere , take the xbox off him till he finds it ,

SoupDragon · 05/07/2012 09:30

Anyway, I am about to enter the Pit of Doom: his bedroom. It simply has to be in there somewhere!

A week of "thorough searching" by him hasn't turned it up though Hmm

Has he got that hideous night brace which goes round your head?? I had one of them, they are horrid and I used to take mine off in my sleep..drove my mum mad!!

Your idea of putting x box in loft is good, do that...suggestions to stop treating etc is ridiculous, he is a 13 year old...I used to lose my removable brace all the time as I bloody hated the thing, I can totally empathise with your DS

KatherineKavanagh · 05/07/2012 09:31

So why has he taken it out of the house?

I sympathise. My ds is 13 with a fixed brace. But getting him to clean his teeth is a job and a half, they are so frustrating!!

The xbox going would certainly affect my own ds and he would up his game

Mrsjay · 05/07/2012 09:32

will be under his pillow or matress all sticky and fluffy good luck finding it , teens are so bloody annoying

SoupDragon · 05/07/2012 09:32

The last one was lost on Scout camp - understandable. This one? FFS!

He had, obviously, private orthodontic work to correct thumbsucking damage. Done so early it hasn't required extractions/surgery.

Bloody children.

"So why has he taken it out of the house?"

Well, that's the thing. Apparently he hasn't Hmm So where the fuck is it DS1??

Disclaimer: I"ve not actually said that to him in those words!

Ooh blimey, you had better put your Marigolds on if you are going in. If he is anything like my 13 year old DS he has done a 'man look' which involves looking but not moving anything. Angry

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 05/07/2012 09:37

its under the pit of his bed with all the sweet wrappers, comics and, no, I cant say scrunched up tissues can I Grin

KatherineKavanagh · 05/07/2012 09:37

It will be in there somewhere then..... Good luck!

SoupDragon · 05/07/2012 09:39

We're not onto the scrunched up tissue stage yet. Thank god. And the random socks are as safe as they can be too...

The only way it could possibly be truly lost is if the dog has been up there, removed it from the bedside table where DS1 has lovingly placed it and then run off into the garden with it. Or eaten it. Which, whilst unlikely, is an option.

I have, however, located the XBox hidden in a suitcase on top of his wardrobe. Got to admire his thinking there.

DS2 ratted on him.

What about a list of chores to do instead? Yuck chores like cleaning out the fridge or steam cleaning the toilet?

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 05/07/2012 09:41

He sounds like a genius..........gotta hand it to him :)

SoupDragon · 05/07/2012 09:41

On the subject of chores: He has just completed paying back the two Oyster cards he lost in the month of May by ironing 20 school shirts at £1 a shirt.

Sparklingbrook · 05/07/2012 09:41

Oh god Betty I thought the sweet wrappers was just DS1. I have hoiked out from the gap between his bed and the wall about twenty Eclair wrappers, 3 school socks, and a Rolo dessert pot with spoon. Hmm

No scrunched up tissues. Smile

zipzap · 05/07/2012 09:44

Tell him you are boxing up xbox and putting in the loft while he looks for the brace and that it will come out once he has found his brace.

Oh and you might as well throw in that his room needs to be spotless too, and say that if brace gets lost again or room isn't tidied properly at least once a week then xbox will disappear again. Bet he will find it again long before the month is out, whether you put a 'selling in a month' threat on it or not!

Also has your ds got a designated place to put his brace when he takes it out? Even if it's just a bright plastic cup in the bathroom or on his bedside table? If he can train himself to always put it in the same place it might make life easier and be good training for not losing his keys in later years. Apologies if I'm stating the obvious and he's already doing this!

starmaker7 · 05/07/2012 09:46

YANBU ,but I would confisticate it and give him chance to find the brace

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 05/07/2012 09:48

Nope he sounds like a typical kid to me - my DS (9) has all sorts under his...odd socks (he gets hot in the night, tosses his socks off, some never to be seen again) the odd head of a wrestling figure, bits of lego, pens, you name it...it's there.

I am dreading the scrunched up tissues and have convinced myself that DS is somehow different and will never do that Grin

KatherineKavanagh · 05/07/2012 09:56

Don't bother lugging x box around..... I just remove the controllers Grin

SoupDragon · 05/07/2012 10:38

I made the XBox threat a week ago so he has had time to look for the brace.

I have had to come out for a restorative cup of tea but so far I have discovered:

  1. he buys an inordinate amount of crap from Sainsburys on the way home from school (whole tubs of Pringles for example). Clearly XH gives him too much pocket money.
  2. He has been caught out in 2 lies so far, namely
  • "yes, I have handed those forms in to the school office
  • "yes I did eat the apple in my packed lunch yesterday"
3) He has forgotten his oyster card today 4) He forgot it yesterday too but had enough change for his bus fare 5) The packet of Jammie Dodgers that was purchased for the scout camp he had to cater for at the weekend was not returned to me with all the other uneaten food. 6) I now know where the missing handset for the home phone went to.

And I'm not even half way through yet.

I do not believe the brace is in there though.

You are doing very well so far Soup. Have you got cupboards and drawers to do yet? Let me know if you find my DS1's £50 goalie gloves that have been missing for months. He doesn't even know whether they are in the house or lost at a match. Angry
