I rang a holiday park to enquire about accomodation today. It's a place where you camp or hire a "Luxury holiday home"...it had very good reviews from my sister...indoor pool, ovely countryside etc. I looked on the site to see the tarriffs and there were none....odd I thought...maybe they'rea bit old fahioned or are doing up the site...so I phoned them up.

The woman who answered my call ran through the types of accomodation at lightening speed and I said "Sorry...could you repeat that please as I didn't quite catch it.."

She sighed and said "we no longer hire the holiday homes, it's just camping now unless you have bought one of our statics"

Oh I said...what are the prices for camping please?

She sihed again and sad "It VARIES according to the amount of people and the ages of children"

So I said "Is there a list on the site anywhere."

"Yes."

"Oh I can't see it anywhere." (very conversational and normal tone)
.
Well it IS THERE!

So I lost my patience then and said "Well I tell you what, I'll just book somewhere else because your phone manner is shocking..goodbye."

ALL said in a polite tone.

I put the phone down and SHE RANG ME BACK rght away and said " just wanted to tel you that it is very rude to put the phone down...

And I said "How dare you call me back to harrass me! Don't call me again I am going to email and complain.

WIBU then? Honestly? my tone all the way through wasconversational and normal...I was polite but could not see the prices anywhere! I have wrtten an email suggesting they retrain their staff.

That's what you need to put in the letter really. Keep it short and sweet and address it to the owners.

'I was looking to booking a holiday at your holiday co. X but the attitude and behaviour of your employee Janice has put me off. And i'm angry and disappointed'.

Then outline what happened as you did here to us.

TheSpokenNerd · 02/07/2012 16:26

Pixie that's it...I don't have a mobile! That's my only phone!

You could get your revenge tomorrow by ringing her back loads and tying her line up.

SoleSource · 02/07/2012 17:42

CatholicDad ha ha ha. Grin

ajandjjmum · 02/07/2012 17:50

Actually, her phoning up and keeping your line engaged takes it a step beyond rudeness imho.

I would call and speak to the owner, and just say that you feel they may be interested to hear about the way you were treated by a member of their staff.

The issue with calling you back and leaving your line blocked for ten minutes is serious.

Teeb · 02/07/2012 18:10

The fact that this women went out of her way to call you back and keep your line on hold for ten minutes is absolute madness, so far beyond being a bit snooty.

I'd love you to name and shame them, if only to warn others of how horrible their staff are.

TheSpokenNerd · 02/07/2012 21:12

I know it's madness and way out of order but I could not prove it really could I? I mean she could say she was callling by mistake or even that I had ASKED her to call back....who knows...it never had an announcement to say calls were recorded.

Sorry but she sounds unhinged. To phone back to give you prices or show you where the information is on their website, now that would be helpful. But just to tie up your phone line for 10 mins is a bit weird. Would you want to stay on a campside run by somebody like that? Avoid, avoid ..... let this be a warning. There would be greater weirdness if you stayed on that site.

TheCraicDealer · 02/07/2012 21:49

Frig's sake, even if this "Janice" manages to talk her way out of it, it'll still be one bloody awkward conversation with her employer. Might put her off being so bloody rude again.

Still think you should go on Trip Advisor

ItsjustSue · 03/07/2012 00:05

Dont worry about not being able to prove it. Just complain. Someone will say something to her and like theCraicDealer says - a 2 minute awkward convo with her boss may just be enough to piss her off if nothing else.

I would not stay there. If she reacts like that on the phone I dread to rhink what she could be capable of in rl.

TheSpokenNerd · 03/07/2012 12:08

I had an email from the owner last night...he was barely able to string a sentence together! He said "I am sorry about your experience however I have had a different story" Hmm

"Janice only phoned you back because you hung up on her she was not harrassing you."

Shock

I sent a really bollocky one back telling him that his business will certainly suffer if he chooses to doubt reasonable and articulate prospective customers over a telephone operative who is clearly not functioning well.

Then I told him not to contact me again and that I would be telling all my friends and family about the matter. The site is The Plassey in North Wales.

I found the tariffs straight away from their website.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 03/07/2012 12:12

The owner sounds as bad as her. No wonder the staff are shite if that's the owner's attitude.

I think your response was perfect, OP. And do post on TripAdvisor!

And YANBU, obviously.

LoopyFuckbadger · 03/07/2012 12:13
Shock

That is appalling customer service! I'm glad you've outed them - I won't stay there, for sure.

imnotmymum · 03/07/2012 12:14

Really she is calling you back ????

Viviennemary · 03/07/2012 12:15

YANBU. She was evasive about telling you the prices. And you were right to be irritated. Most people would have been. Don't see the point of e-mailing as she is probably the person who deals with e-mails.

ScrambledSmegs · 03/07/2012 12:22

Well, YANBU about the behaviour of 'Janice' and her bosses response was not great.

However, the website is very easy to navigate and the tariff's page is straightforward. I'm very surprised you couldn't find it.

Teeb · 03/07/2012 12:24

I could find the tariffs for the campsite, but I didn't see the tariff for the luxury holiday homes site.

TheSpokenNerd · 03/07/2012 12:40

vivi I have ameailed twice and lst night the owner mailed me.

imnotmymum no...not sure where you got that from.

Scrambled that's not the point is it?

OP posts:
TheSpokenNerd · 03/07/2012 12:43

It wasn't only about my not finding the tarrifs...but about the way she spoke to me and was rude and dismissive. We all get blind spots now and then surely...I got one there....when I spoke to her I was on the site..and I said musngly "I cant see the tarriffs anywhere"

Fully expecting her to say "Oh you go to X place and they are there..." or something....certainly not "Well they ARE THERE!" in an almost angry voice!

OP posts:
pinkpyjamas · 03/07/2012 13:01

They deserve naming and shaming as the owner's response was pathetic.

The woman answering the phone, and representing his company, should have at least been told that if a prospective customer calls for information, she should use a bit of common sense in order to provide it.

Even if she did not have the tariff to hand she could have made a note of OP's email address and emailed her the link to it on their website.

If a client can't find a relevant piece of information then I would expect the company hoping to sell to that client to provide it.

As opposed to, y'know, having a tantrum and harrassing them.

An apology costs nothing (and by that I mean a proper apology, not one containing the word 'however'); a public outing of your shoddy business practices can be extremely costly.

Own goal, at best, Brookshaw family.

I still think you should add a review to Trip Advisor, TSN.

ScrambledSmegs · 03/07/2012 13:03

I know, I said that Janice behaved badly to you Confused. I gave you a YANBU an'all!

I was rather confused as the website seems quite clear, that's all. Although I guess if you were looking for accommodation rather than camping that would explain why you couldn't find it.

EightiesChick · 03/07/2012 13:13

Trip Advisor. Definitely. That's what it's for. You make it clear that you didn't even get as far as booking because their phone person was so unhelpful. Agree that emailing's probably pointless as she will delete it. but she can't delete the TripAdvisor review and any business worth its salt will have its owner check on what's been said on Tripadvisor, so the right person will ultimately get to know.

MrsBovary · 03/07/2012 13:16

Oh dear, what a dreadful response from the owner! I'll certainly keep it in mind as one to avoid!
