..don't feed the kids junk and then send them home full of crisps and popcorn and unwilling to eat something proper.

Dropped DD off at said party and table of food is already laid just with junk and a token amount of fruit.

It's a party. Just do dinner later?

Firawla · 01/07/2012 11:30

It's a party. I wouldn't be too bothered personally, as long as they are not left starving. It's not like they eat those things all day every day

RedHelenB · 01/07/2012 11:30

YABU - junk food & parties go together don't they!!??

SoupDragon · 01/07/2012 11:30

It's a one-off party.

It won't kill them.

fanoftheinvisibleman · 01/07/2012 11:31

YABU. It's a party so doesn't happen every day. If you can't deal with it then decline invites.

spongebrainfatpants · 01/07/2012 11:34

It's a birthday party! You misery guts!

whackamole · 01/07/2012 11:34

YABU. That's what parties are supposed to have!

hermionestranger · 01/07/2012 11:35

It's a party! Op you need to relax.

whackamole · 01/07/2012 11:36

*And they're supposed to be hyped up and mental till tea time, when they start whining because they have already broken/lost the toy from the party bag and eaten all the sweets.

Tis the law.

They should only eat home grown organic celery and carrots and drink water distilled from the swiss alps

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 01/07/2012 11:36

It's a party woman, I'd be more disappointed if the table was laden with wholesome goodness.

takingiteasy · 01/07/2012 11:37

Grip. Get one.

WorraLiberty · 01/07/2012 11:39

You sound like you need a Biscuit OP

Mind you don't let it spoil your dinner

medjool · 01/07/2012 11:40

No problems with some junk WITH proper food, just with sending kids home for lunch full of empty calories. I'm not saying it should be carrot sticks all round, but something like hot dogs or pizza will please kids enough while still being a treat. Maybe I'm just a party food prude!!

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 01/07/2012 11:42

What makes you think the host is 'sending the kids home for lunch'??

They're not, they're simply sending them home after a party.

And yes you're a party food prude.

CurrySpice · 01/07/2012 11:43

Yes, maybe you are. Lighten up

FrancesHouseman · 01/07/2012 11:43

My children have pizza as a meal, not a party treat! I think you MUST be a party food prude...

DSD came home from a party yesterday with a bag full of sweets - 2 lollies, a pack of Chewitts, a huge slice of cake covered in mountains of icing. THAT'S real party catering!

Sparklingbrook · 01/07/2012 11:44

Oooh Frances, my children have pizza for dinner sometimes too and sometimes hot dogs, Blush

KatieScarlett2833 · 01/07/2012 11:47

I always eat the cake for my DC. I'm such a good mum, being concerned about their sugar intake and all...

YABU OP, go and eat their cake.

CrikeyOHare · 01/07/2012 11:47

You may not be aware, so let me enlighten you....

Occasionally stuffing their faces with rubbish will neither kill a child, cause all of their teeth to fall out or set them on the road to a lifetime of obesity. Just won't.

Lighten the fuck up.

Did yr DD have a good time?

ShatnersBassoon · 01/07/2012 11:53

Empty calories are the best ones. Children don't need to be served a substantial meal at parties, just offered a few treats as part of the fun.
