..don't feed the kids junk and then send them home full of crisps and popcorn and unwilling to eat something proper.

Dropped DD off at said party and table of food is already laid just with junk and a token amount of fruit.

I can't believe that anyone would be even planning a lunch for their child after a morning party.

Mrsjay · 01/07/2012 11:57

It is a party that usually means party food and rubbish serving fruit must be a new thing when mine were younger it was all quenchy cup juice and blue smarties Grin

StrawberryTot · 01/07/2012 12:17

YABU. parties = party food + a dose of good fun! Lighten up and enjoy Grin

elizaregina · 01/07/2012 12:28

YABU

Its a party! One lunch time of not eating something " proper" wont harm them at all.

Maybe next time ask your child to step aside quietly whilst the others indulge......

fanoftheinvisibleman · 01/07/2012 12:30

You are a party food prude. I suspect you'd have had a heart attack at my behaviour yesterday. Ds attended morning and afternoon parties. He ate junk at mid day. He ate junk again at 4 o clock. I asked at 6 if wanted any tea or not and said no but he'd eat the party bag cake. And I let him as it will be business as usual from today and it won't kill him. And they are the first parties he has been to in a couple of months so it isn't every weekend.

HandMadeTail · 01/07/2012 12:50

I bet when you are invited to a barbecue, the hosts feed you too much meat, not enough salads or vegetables, too much alcohol. I bet there's crisps and other unhealthy snacks served, and any puddings are full of sugar and cream, and only a few token bits of fruit.

Bloody rude of them!

MrsSutherland · 01/07/2012 13:16

Just give them a snack when they are home and give them a proper meal at tea time, can't really see the issue?!

YABU... It's a party not an everyday occurrence.

overmydeadbody · 01/07/2012 13:26

YABU and a party food prude.

It is a party! It won't kill them. Nothing wrong with empty calories sometimes is there? Your children won't explode.

drinkyourmilk · 01/07/2012 13:27

Depends what you call junk.
At parties I serve sandwiches (ham. Cheese, jam) pizza squares, sausages, crisps, sweet fruits, cheese squares etc. Cakes and biscuits come out later. I'm a nanny and have held a stupid number of parties- never had complaints.

SoleSource · 01/07/2012 13:40

YABU Have a heap Biscuit's, miserable woman.

LynetteScavo · 01/07/2012 13:48

Pop corn and crisps and biscuits and cake are what children eat at parties. In the summer I also put out a bowl of strawberries, but that's just me.

It sounds as though the host is giving this food for lunch. So all the other children will be eating this party food for their lunch, and won't get a 2nd lunch at home. Confused What time are you collecting her?

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 01/07/2012 13:48

YANBU.

(I just wanted to sway the balance the other way a little)

iammovingsoon · 01/07/2012 13:49

YANBU, but we are vastly outnumbered so there is no point discussing it further!

whatinthewhatnow · 01/07/2012 13:56

yabu. if my kids filled up on junk at a party i would consider that their lunch, and not think about it until tea time. i might try and feed them something super healthy for tea though, to compensate. then again, i might not. it's a party, they're kids. let them enjoy it. i personally am always a bit disappointed when parties have carrot sticks and pitta bread and not enough party rings and crisps.

gordyslovesheep · 01/07/2012 13:57

do you put home grown mung beans in your party bags rather than Harribo?

Jins · 01/07/2012 13:58

Fruit at a party Confused

Never seen it yet

SoleSource · 01/07/2012 13:59

I would lay out chocolate, sweets, cakes, crisps, chocolate biscuits, sandwiches, boiled eggs, pizza, sausages, milkshakes, orange juice, smoothies, milk, water, ribena etc

Foslady · 01/07/2012 14:10

I remember my daughter got invited to a party once at the local organic farm. Kids were all given cheese sandwiches on fresh baked wholemeal bread, small bags (made up by the farm) of hand cut designer crisps, carrot sticks and shortbread biscuits. I've never seen so much food wasted with only the biscuits being eaten, and parents hurriedly trying to quell the 'but where's the jam sarnies?' and 'Don't like these crisps!'........the only thing they did like was the pooing animal keyrings they were given!!!! It's a party, let them have fun!!!! NB - she was the only kid who DID have parties there............
