AIBU to buy clothes for my dc that I think are cute?

Following on from another thread, it left me wondering if IABU. Two DS (1 and 11). For the youngest I have total control over what clothes I buy for him. Given that most baby/toddler clothes are practical, and what I buy is within budget etc, the main reason I have for choosing his clothes are that i think they are cute, and therefore ds2 will look cute in them. Is this so unreasonable? DS1 is more or less the same, but an 11 year old equivalent to cute, trendy/fashionable perhaps? Ds1 isn't overly bothered by what clothes I buy him and is happy to wear them. Obviously if he doesn't like something then I wouldn't buy it. He doesn't really have much preference atm (other than trainers, its DC's or nowt!) and when he does then he can choose his own clothes.

YANBU - maybe I've missed your point, but other than practicality, what other reason would you have for picking a 1yo's clothes?

takingiteasy · 30/06/2012 15:06

On the cardigan thread there were comments suggesting it is wrong. I love picking clothes for my boys!

ophelia275 · 30/06/2012 15:17

What's the matter? Has someone told you only girls are allowed to wear nice and cute clothes? In which case, just ignore them. There are lots of nice boys clothes out there, why shouldn't boys look nice and want to look nice too? I love shopping for my sons.

YANBU nothing wrong with wanting your DC to look cute providing your not trussing them up in something inappropriate or uncomfortable.
I take great pleasure in dressing my DD in cute outfits and I make no apologies for it :)

cute is good.

oldraver · 30/06/2012 20:50

Although DS is 6 and has an opinion on what he likes to wear (was recently shocked when I showed him something in a shop and he said he didnt like it) I love buying him nice clothes. It was easier as a toddler to find him 'cute' or different clothes. No one bats an eyelid at girls in nice clothes at all

DS is very miffed there are not as many 'pretty' things for boys

MrsTerryPratchett · 30/06/2012 20:57

Whether YABU really depends on your definition of cute.

1 year olds are supposed to be cute aren't they?
