So I have an appointment at the hairdresseres next week, a trim and some colour, will take 2 hours plus. AIBU to take my laptop with me and get some work done? I really don't want to waste 2 hours reading trashy magazines or having a forced conversation about the weather/where I'm going on holiday/how long I have been living in the area etc. Would it be different if I was in there for 30 min, but 2 hours.... What's the etiquette?

I do this a lot. I have a job I can take with me and often crunch numbers or build experiments on my laptop whilst having my head painted. I usually say something like 'You don't mind if I work do you?', and it's always fine. I have to take a break when my glasses have to come off and I can't see any more, but why waste 2 hours when you can spend that time relaxing as you please some other time? NB I suspect the situation would be different if you were having a cut and would need to hold your head at certain angles, but for colours or treatments, go for it!

Don't see why it would be a problem I expect it would be a relief for the salon not have to to entertain someone for 2 hours. You obviously won't be able to work while they're applying colour or cutting and styling your hair but while the colour is developing then why not.

I always take either work with me, or if to confidential then reading to do with adding to my knowledge.

I don't take a lap top because of the danger of getting it knocked or something spilt on it, but it depends on the hairdressers and the lay out, of course.

I work at the hairdressers!! i take the laptop while getting colour done? I don;t think it's a problem at all, i do the chat chat and the nice stuff, read a magazine drink the coffee and then get the laptop out while the colour is doing it's stuff!

I catch up with emails, but via iPhone not laptop. Why would it matter to the hairdresser what you do?

imnotmymum · 30/06/2012 12:26
