about being turned down for a job because of Government funding?!?!?

I went through a lengthy interview process for a job that I really, really wanted.
(I hate my job but do it well.)
The recruiter told me that I didn't get it, but it was only because they interviewed a late candidate who was a recent graduate and the Government offer the company 50% of their wage if they employ them.

IABU to think that this is unfair, given that I've had to work for the last 10 years to get into the position where I'd be qualified to do this job and have the life experience to do it well...whereas some student gets it handed to them because money talks?

(Vaguely lighthearted as I am aware that I'm lucky to have a job at all and always pleased for other people to get on the job ladder too, but I've worked so bloody hard for this!!!!)

She might have told everyone else the same thing?

mrscumberbatch · 29/06/2012 21:11

It's a possibility. I had psyched myself up for it so much and feedback was that they'd change absolutely nothing as my interview etc was perfect and my experience was ideal for the job....but they're a growing business and the funding helps....

I'm not going to stew over it (for long!) but it's not very often that a job comes along that really inspires you.

Ah well, back to my shitty horrible job on Monday!

dont' give up! an opportunity will come up again

Sorry to rub salt in, but I've never heard of such a scheme, but have a graduate family member to whom it might apply. Could you post its exact name, as I can't find anything likely on google.

And I do hope another better job comes up for you soon.

commonwealth graduate fundHope it comes in handier for you than it did for me Wink

Thanks! I don't think it's likely to help much, as the person has no connexion to Glasgow. And presumably the Council pot of money supporting it could run dry at any point. It's such bad luck for you, though.

Might Wine help?

mrscumberbatch · 29/06/2012 21:29

Maybe they fancy a relocation to Glasgow ? Lol.

Slightly fuming as it feels like I'm paying tax for some student to take the job that I worked hard for ;) (ridiculously high council tax)

No wine for me. Diet. Have decided that if I can't get my worklife in order I may as well work on everything else!
