To ask people from Nottingham to talk to me about secondary schools in Sherwood?

Sorry, I know it's not AIBU but no one has answered me on chat Sad.

Our dc are only 5 and 3 but we are moving from New Basford partly to get away from the dreaded school-beginning-with-a D. We have looked at Gedling and Arnold and in fact are in negotiations over a Gedling house but are not certain to get it.

A lovely, within budget house has just come on in Sherwood. We love Sherwood, have friends there, feel we fit in there - a lot more than in Gedling but that may just be baecause we don't know it.

Anyway, the problem is that moving to Sherwood would not take us away from our current (seemingly huge) catchment area which is kind of the point of moving . We know of several people who have teenage dc in Sherwood whose children go to other schools - Redhill, Arnot, Calverton etc and several people have told us, "Oh don't worry, you'll get them in somewhere else, stay here!" etc but not sure how much faith I can put in this.

Before anyone slates me, I am happy to support local schools and want my dc to go to a nice, mixed, community school. The 'D' school has a shocking reputation and, as a teacher, I know of several people who have taught there who have told me awful things about it. I have never met a person with a good word to say about it but, if anyone has positive experiences of it, I would like to hear those too!

Also, any advice from anyone at all would be wonderful as my head is spinning here!

Fair point. always seems to be people talking about Eton on there but I'm probably being silly Blush.

6 years gives a lot of scope for catchment areas to change, schools to merge or change to acadamies. In that area i'm not sure a move would guarantee anything

I was brought up in Sherwood and family still live there, but it was some time ago so I'm probably not a lot of help. I got a free place at the Girl's High School for my sins, and it wasn't the right school for me.
