In work last week and was working on the children ward. Formula feed babies the mothers had to pay £1.50 for a meal yet breastfeeding mother was told ther is no charge.

Formula on children ward are only provided in an emergency so I don't think it's down to cost

Juggling- it was bolted to the wall.
The thieves bought tools and went and got it down in the middle of the night.
But yeah, its out fault like everything else Hmm

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 27/06/2012 10:18

As anNHS worker you will be Aware that the majority if theft of technical equipment is not done by parents.
It's usually down very soon after the stuff is installed and NOT by a parent.

FutTheShuckUp · 27/06/2012 10:18

Mrs DV- ive looked after many many children without parents staying overnight. Children with complex needs, behavioural problems, children who need changing constantly, children who try to escape all the time.
Its certainly no bloody picnic and moaning parents just make you feel like quiting.

FutTheShuckUp · 27/06/2012 10:19

Mrs DV it was captured on CCTV- it WAS a parent.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 27/06/2012 10:20

So the parents of. Sick child smuggled in told and nicked it?

You know that do you?
The likelihood is that it was thieves who target hospitals because of their poor security or an inside job.
And who is blaming you?

catinboots · 27/06/2012 10:20

MrsDV Sad

I totally agree with you. DS was hospitalised for a mere 8 days last year and it was a nightmare. Brand new state of the art hospital - all on suite private rooms. Free tea and toast for the parents buit that was it. I had to leave lirrle DS (1.7) all on his own to grab an overpriced sandwich from the hospital canteen.

I was very fortunate that my mum came up every day - and went home to sort DS1 out in the evenings. DH was working.

I was shocked at how easily you can get 'forgotten' about in a ward of private rooms. I had to repeatedly go and ask for DS2's antibiotics to be administered and his obs to be taken. I wondered how children of people 'less on the ball' would fare in their Hmm

FutTheShuckUp · 27/06/2012 10:21

Mrs DV IT WAS CAPTURED ON CCTV yawns

FutTheShuckUp · 27/06/2012 10:22

Maybe cat the staff were busy dealing with other more unwell children? Thats why they couldn't come to your child at that time?

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 27/06/2012 10:23

You are not answering my question? What if they ALL left you to it.
If you find it that hard to loo after a few of them what would you do if you had a ward full?

It's no picnic? What doing it for a few hours ten going home for dinner?
Whatnif it was all the time surrounded by nurses who think you are moaning I'd you ask for food?
What would that be like

treadheavily · 27/06/2012 10:23

I was fed when my baby was in hospital, presumably because feeding me helped me help him, I think that's the logic there.

JugglingWithTangentialOranges · 27/06/2012 10:24

We don't expect you to solve all the problems or have all the answers ShuckUp
We appreciate the work you do looking after sick children and their families.
I've done somewhat similar work myself as a student nurse - I know the constraints everyone is working under.

But don't try to stop parents from making the system better for everyone - it's not just about complaining. It's about telling it like it is as a first step to seeing what can be done to improve things for others.

FutTheShuckUp · 27/06/2012 10:24

If I knew of anyone whos child who was in hospital long term (and trust me I have- my friends DD is a long stay patient in hospital) I would help them with the basics, washing clothes, preparing them food etc. I cant believe so many people have NOBODY whatsoever who can do this?

catinboots · 27/06/2012 10:27

Previous post ^ *there not their

Fut - he was quite poorly actually. He had a kidney infection, a temp of 44 and a seizure. His antibiotics were vital. No not a long term patient - but he still needed his medication at the designated intervals.

FutTheShuckUp · 27/06/2012 10:27

Yes Mrs DV- doing it for a few hours and going home to have dinner (at gone 10pm most nights as no breaks due to running round like a blue arsed fly trying to pander to everyones needs all day long)

catinboots · 27/06/2012 10:27

Lots of people have nobody unfortunatley Sad

Sirzy · 27/06/2012 10:28

I do think nursing staff are getting a hard time here although I can understand why if people have had negative experiences.

I do think it is easy to forget that the staff are stretched and that sometimes your child's obs may not be the most urgent thing to do. I still remember when DS was at his worst he had 4 nurses and 3 doctors with him fighting to get him stable. One parent came storming to the door of the room and his words were something along the lines of "I have been waiting for 10 minutes for a fucking bottle for the baby, cant you hear her crying?"

It's a good job I wasn't really with it at that point, or I would have given him a gobful, I am not saying anyone on here does but some people really do treat hospital staff like shit

FutTheShuckUp · 27/06/2012 10:28

Nurses like me maybe tried to help make your child better.
Fuck as all hey? Evil bitches.

catinboots · 27/06/2012 10:28

Fut - I think you're actually being quite offensive now. Have a bit of compassion FFS

catinboots · 27/06/2012 10:29

The nurses on DS's ward were often sat at the nurse station checking their facebook!!!

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 27/06/2012 10:29

Yeah you are the only one with a job arnt you?
You are the only one who has to give T work.
And remind me again why nurses switched to the current shift pattern?

You see meeting the needs of your patients as pandering ?
I think you should look for that job in tescos

FutTheShuckUp · 27/06/2012 10:30

I have got compassion. You know nothing about my values. All I do is try to make life easier for the patients FIRST and foremost. To have parents sniping and calling you a martyr etc for all you do just makes me despair and want to quit nursing.

FutTheShuckUp · 27/06/2012 10:31

Well they must all do that then cat musnt they?

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 27/06/2012 10:33

No one is talking about nurses.
No one is asking for nurses to feed them.
The nurse on this thread has seen and opportunity to tell everyone how hard her job is and shite parents are.
She has been called on it.

Just because I refuse to see all nurses as 'angels' doesn't mean I don't respect the profession.

I haven't got time for self righteous wome who get the hump if they are not treated like saints.
