YABU. Learn to touch type!

Psammead · 26/06/2012 16:53

YANBU, but this is not useful when writing emails.

theITgirl · 26/06/2012 16:53

I find it a lot quicker to use @.
It is my most frequently used special character - and I cannot touch type

Alameda · 26/06/2012 16:54

if you keep switching from mac to pc to mobile device to weird German keyboard then definitely not unreasonable - a universal standard place for the @symbol would be nice

but if you use the same thing all the time and know where it is then it is probably quicker because only one press on keys (shift and whatever) as opposed to two, a and t

BertieBotts · 26/06/2012 17:01

It's quicker for me because I automatically know where it is.

However I don't tend to use it for the actual word at...

Alameda · 26/06/2012 17:05

oh I wouldn't use it instead of the word, in a sentence - meant for email addresses

ugh

TodaysAGoodDay · 26/06/2012 17:07

And it's getting bloody annoying all these people who have started responding to posts like this:

@TodaysAGoodDay etc etc

Can you not do this TodaysAGoodDay instead? We're not on fecking Twitter!!!

nickelbarapasaurus · 26/06/2012 17:19

no.

it's there - above the '

it's shift+ '

or don't you use the ' either?

nickelbarapasaurus · 26/06/2012 17:19

Today - you're right, though - I've seen that a couple of times today.
it was weird.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 26/06/2012 17:49

I do so use the apostrophe nicely.

It's the use of @ rather than at on MN that's inpiried this thread, thought it may be down to lazy typing Wink, but I reckon it's actually harder typing.

What nickel said.

nickelbarapasaurus · 26/06/2012 17:57

good.

you don't need @
unless you're typing an email address :)

quoteunquote · 26/06/2012 18:23

scrimmage around the key broad looking for the "@"

mines in the same place every time.

drawthecurtains · 26/06/2012 18:30

Yes but presumably a key broad is much wider, so those extra keys keep getting in the way Grin

quoteunquote · 26/06/2012 18:42

Talking on the phone and typing a reply on MN,is clearly not without consequences. Grin

ChaosTrulyReigns · 26/06/2012 20:17

Thats right drawthecur get some capitals.

I don't think it's lazy per se but it is a text speak thing which is annoying.

@person is annoying too.

I can't type in text speak, once you've been typing long enough your fingers just automatically find the letters so to spell stuff wrong on purpose is just... ow. I guess txt spk makes more sense when you're young and just learning and the method of typing is

YABU

My keyboard doesn't move. I know where @ is.

Trills · 26/06/2012 21:13

If you want to ask if you are being unreasonable to ask if @ing at a person is rude or tacky or whatever, go ask that.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 26/06/2012 22:03

Naah, Trills.

I was actually interested in the speed and logistics of the skill.

IMVHO, it;s harder to type "@" than to type "at".

But what do I know? I'm a terrible typer.

It's hard to type that little TM mark.

Not hard to type @

It's just there.

Certainly no harder than typing At - you have to do a shift-press and another letter

TalcAndTurnips · 26/06/2012 22:14

Chaos - don't sell yourself short. Your typing skills are both inspirational and legendary. Thanks

I text in the same way as I post on here. Takes flipping ages, but I will not have anything to do with the second-rate slaughter of the English language. I suffer from thumb cramp too. Sad
