Bit uncomfortable knowing everyone who is reading porn

LoopyLoopsCorgiPoops · 24/06/2012 09:36

All kinds of women on FB declaring how much they are loving 10 shades. I know lots don't like it. But I am feeling a bit weird knowing who, and how much some people are liking it. AIBU or should people keep their porn lit tastes to themselves?

yanbu.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 24/06/2012 10:04

YANBU, my colleagues were going on about it and that was definitely something i didn't need to know

Marymaryalittlecontrary · 24/06/2012 10:09

Oooh yes, I thought it was just me who thought it was odd for women to be talking about it on Facebook! I have a few friends who keep putting statuses like 'off to bed to read 50 shades!' To be fair I haven't read the book but it's fairly erotic isn't it? And if it isn't then people think it is, so basically such statuses will make people think you're going to be well, you know! Which is just an odd thing to advertise on Facebook!

BadNails · 24/06/2012 10:23

I assume it embarrasses you?

I couldn't care less if people want to take, by all accounts, poorly written erotic fiction to bed and wish to advertise the fact.

ObviouslyOblivious · 24/06/2012 10:25

I was thinking this last night - three friends all posted at about 10pm that they "have a date with Mr Grey". Basically advertising that they're off for a wank then....

slatternlymother · 24/06/2012 10:26

Why don't you hide their status updates then? Smile

MarysBeard · 24/06/2012 10:28

Mixed feelings. I am bit fed up of hearing about the book - sounds like Jackie Collins/Judith Krantz, but with less plot - the sort of thing I'd have liked to read as a young teenager - but glad if it helps people to talk about sex more openly.

Shullbit · 24/06/2012 10:29

I just don't understand why everyone is posting such statuses over this book. They never have over other books (not on mine anyway), so why now about this one? Confused

picnicbasketcase · 24/06/2012 10:30

Two people on my FB post statuses like that, but I just take it to mean that they wouldn't know decent writing if it hit them firmly on the bottom with a whip. Didn't think 'they're off for a wank' though.

SophieLeGiraffe · 24/06/2012 10:31

YANBU. There was a woman reading it on the train the other day. I was like "you are reading porn on a train Shock

I was too mind, but I was doing it the proper way via Kindle..

picnicbasketcase · 24/06/2012 10:32

Oh, and if you know anything about or have read the books, follow the Christian Grey CEO account on Twitter, very funny indeed Grin

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 24/06/2012 10:35

YANBU. There are so many posts on my fb page about it, too. Very odd. I refuse to read it because of the hype!! And because I have heard from quite a few people that it is crap.

MarysBeard · 24/06/2012 10:37

But if someone is reading an erotic book on the train, unless they are salivating or something (!) it doesn't affect you in the same way as, someone looking at page 3.

jellyjones · 24/06/2012 10:38

id prefer to watch a good porn vid than struggle through a poorly written book lol

Chandon · 24/06/2012 10:39

All I want to knw is : is it any good?

If so I will buy, and keep you all updated via MN ;)

If you're into Twilight, BDSM and endless identical sex scenes you'll love it.

No it doesn't I was just surprised that's all. But I have read it now and can see she was probably just counting how many "bite my lips" there are.

I saw someone looking at page 3 the other day and was shocked, I forgot they still did that!

curiositykitten · 24/06/2012 10:42

Can you imagine if men all over the country started uploading scans of the latest copy of 'Jugs' with the status update "Away for a wank over some titties...."?

Bestb411pm · 24/06/2012 10:44

Acutually if one side effect of this (IMHO) crap book is it removes some of the taboo around female masturbation, that's not a bad thing.

Have to say it does raise my eyebrows slightly, but when you're removing a taboo it can take a while to find the right balance - you don't hear many men announcing their off to bed with a copy of Razzle. Grin

LST · 24/06/2012 10:44

I'm going have to read it. To see what all the hype is about..

ajandjjmum · 24/06/2012 10:44

Didn't love it (didn't finish it which is most unusual). Sooo repetitive. Hate twilight too. Slightly odd moment yesterday when DD was talking about everyone talking about it, and ended up borrowing my copy - I felt quite uncomfortable handing it over!! Grin

MarysBeard · 24/06/2012 10:45

I prefer to read book where if there is any sex in it at all, it is incidental to the plot rather than the whole raison d'etre for the book. But I would get more turned on by written sex than visual, as it allows me to use my imagination rather than having someone else's fantasy imposed on me in a film.

Bearcrumble · 24/06/2012 10:46

Considering it started out as Twilight fanfic I can't imagine it is any good.

DH saw a woman on the bus reading it, mouthing the words and tracing each line with her finger then the next day two girls behind the fish counter (honestly) at Sainsbury's had grabbed a male colleague to read bits out at.
