to never shop in Argos ever again and blacken their name to everyone I know?

Ordered a gas barbecue on 31 May, for use at a charity fundraising event on 30 June. Only available for home delivery. First available delivery date 16 June, so over 2 weeks from order - a bit slow, but confirmed by email, payment taken immediately from credit card. On the 15th June, Argos then cancel delivery by leaving a message on my home phone ie less than 24 hours before delivery.

OK not very happy but enough time left before event, so reschedule delivery for next available date 22 June ie tomorrow.

Phoned Argos today to confirm all ok for delivery, response from call centre "oh yes, that delivery was cancelled yesterday" They again have cancelled by leaving an answerphone message, cowards. They are now unable to reschedule delivery as item OOS, can only promise to phone me within 5 days to reorganise delivery, and have no idea when that delivery date may be!

We are now left without our BBQ for our event at which we need to cater for approx 300 children and adults.

Never, ever shopping in Argos again!!!

Is it Argos at fault or delivery drivers?

Tee2072 · 21/06/2012 14:59

That's one reason I won't shop for delivery with them.

Try Tesco direct.

PinkElephant73 · 21/06/2012 14:59

My contract is with Argos so its their problem, but they are blaming the bbq supplier.

They did this to me for a bunk bed I ordered - twice. Kept us waiting for over a month in total, with 2 cancelled delivery dates, before telling us it was unavailable from the manufacturer after all.

Was extremely pissed off with them. Bought a nicer bunk bed from K and Co that was over £100 cheaper

CheeseandPickledOnion · 21/06/2012 15:03

Never use them for stuff like that.

Once took us over 3 months to get a BBQ and a bed out of them. Constantly out of stock, wouldn't refund.

NiniLegsInTheAir · 21/06/2012 15:03

Don't use Tesco Direct either - they don't honour orders when they mis-price items on their site, there's currently a massive fuss about loads of toys they were selling cheap on their site and they're now backtracking and cancelling orders. I was caught out yesterday after thinking I'd got a good deal on a toy. Sad

CakeBump · 21/06/2012 15:04

YANBU

They are shit and so are their products....

Sarcalogos · 21/06/2012 15:05

Yabu unreasonable for shopping in argos is the first place. Dreadful shop.

JoannaFight · 21/06/2012 15:05
Sad

I find their website annoying. You have to go through page after page before they'll tell you where it's in stock. Just tell me where it is and I'll decide if I want to go and get it, not what's closest to me. IrritatingHmm

oreocrumbs · 21/06/2012 15:11

Argos are dreadfull for this. Its happened to me a few times, they keep putting back delivery untill you either cancel or they eventually admit defeat.

My DM used to work for a bedding supplier, they supplied argos with certain bedding. Sales were pretty much none so her company tried to order some from argos. Couldn't get it. It was listed as in stock but similar scenario of not being able to get it delivered. As they were the supplier they knew argos had made no attempt to order any, so it was argos that was the problem not them. That company won't deal with them now.

PinkElephant73 · 21/06/2012 15:15

sarcalogos I entirely agree, I can't stand the place but someone else spotted the BBQ there and it was a vg price. I suspect a "bait and switch" scam is going on with these amazing prices on things they are mysteriously not able to supply.

Had similar a few years ago - ordered a desk, paid upfront, was given a delivery date, was told we would be contacted before delivery to arrange time - no contact, so I contacted them, only to be told the delivery date I'd been given was not one on which they deliver (!). Cue many phone calls back and forth, and ultimately we cancelled cos we bought elsewhere. It took a very, very long time to get my money back, but I did because I'm a fucking arsey cow quite assertive when I have to be.

Anyway, fast forward to a few months ago - my son and his gf attempted to buy a bed from Argos and had a similar kerfuffle regarding delivery. They have had their 'delivery' cancelled at least 3 times. Most recently they have been told at the last minute that the bed is not available, but that their bed has been reordered for delivery in another 4 weeks. Again, their money was taken at the point of order, so has been tied up for about 3 months now.

I would never again order from Argos if it was the last place I could get anything from. Surely if you pay money to someone, a company that sits on every high street, and advertises on tv with lovely cutesy characters, you are entitled to hope and expect that they will treat you with a basic modicum of respect and decent customer service.

Pandemoniaa · 21/06/2012 15:28

I've heard so many horror stories about Argos Home Delivery - friends were left sitting on cushions after moving and waiting interminably for a non-existent sofa that they could have ordered and received in a fraction of the time from anyone else - that if an item is home delivery only I just look to get it somewhere else. Their stuff is not so much of a bargain to warrant the grief. So while I quite like the ability to reserve items in stock and pick them up from the store in question, that's the limit of my purchasing with Argos.

dondon33 · 21/06/2012 15:35

YANBU
I've had this myself with them a few years back and have never used their delivery service since.
Ordered a bed for my new house, was told the delivery would be the next week (which was one reason why i ordered that specific bed) the day before i got a message saying delivery had been cancelled and a new date could be made the week after.....All together I waited almost 6 weeks before it actually graced my house, only to find the bastard thing was damaged and needed to go back :@
I demanded a refund and bought a bed from a local shop who delivered the next day :)
It boils my pee that a shop as big and as well known as Argos has problems with the manufacturers, its not our fault as customers and to be honest Argos should make sure they have in stock and ready to go, every item that they sell to be delivered. It's not good enough.

Pandemoniaa · 21/06/2012 15:40

Their attitude to stock reminds me of another well-known retail chain. After discovering, for the third time that the "display purposes only" item was out of stock with no firm indication of when they'd get a further delivery, I asked why they couldn't remove said display version until supplies were in. I was then told that they couldn't do this as otherwise people wouldn't know they stocked it. Er, yes. But you only stock it if the sodding thing as in stock!

It occurs to me that Argos take a similar approach and it is cynical and unhelpful.

CherryBlossom27 · 21/06/2012 15:45

YANBU, had dreadful experience with them ordering our dining table and chairs, they kept pushing back the delivery date as they had been let down by their suppliers apparently, when it did eventually arrive it was bloody scratched and we just gave up hope! There is a strategically placed placemat covering the scratch!

We also bought a kitchen bin from the store, the assistant handed us this battered box and we said is it damaged? Oh no, he said, but if it is you can bring it back for a refund. We opened it in the middle of the shop to find it was dented and queued in customer services to refund it and they didn't even bother with an apology!

Awful customer service!

BoysWillGrow · 21/06/2012 15:49

Same here, ordered a bunkbed and two mattresses beginning of the year. It took nearly two months to arrive. constant changes to delivery days, then out of stock, funny how it wasn't out of stock when I was placing the order and paying though.
Never again and they're confirmation email said they would deliver within 10 days aswell.

PinkElephant73 · 21/06/2012 16:07

After frantic googling I've found a local shop who have the bbq in stock. it is going to cost us more than argos but it seems argos were lying, they never intended to actually supply the bbq at that price anyway.

They are bastards. Bought DS a bike from there on Monday and one for DD.

Put DD's up. Pieces missing. Tues - go back to store. Get missing pieces.

Tues eve - put DS bike together. Wheels buckled.

Wed - go bck to store to swap wheels. Bring wheels home. They're buckled too. Then we realise gears dnt work properly.

Spend half my day on phone to store who open bikes up and find all the feckin wheels are buckled.

Today - go to Argos. Again. 4th time. Order a diff more expensive bike. Comes down. Wheels buckled. Complain to duty manager. Offers a £5 argos voucher. Tell him to fuck off no thanks.

And I wouldn't mind, but stil have a 50quid giftcard for ther.

samithesausage · 22/06/2012 00:18

I bought some bike tyres there once. At the point of sale I was told that they may be exchanged for a different brand of tyre of the same or higher value(some exchange policy they do). I get home and not only are they a different brand, they're a completely different size as advertised in the catalogue!

QuintessentialShadows · 22/06/2012 00:21

Why are you not renting a BBQ for the day for your event, wouldnt that be easier and cheaper?

sheepsgomeeping · 22/06/2012 07:19

Catseverywhere this has just happened to my mum. She bought a sideboard unit thing from Argos last week, delivery was supposed to be next week only they contacted her yesterday to say they dont deliver on that day and it would have to another day even though she was told by a human that the original day was ok.

Customer services clearly couldnt care less and my mum has vowed never to shop there again. Its not the first time she's had problems with them either

wellthatsdoneit · 22/06/2012 08:04

Just curious - if, when you've ordered something and they claim they can't deliver as not in stock, is it still listed as in stock and orderable on their website?

Thanks for the heads up though. I certainly won't be ordering any large items from argos any time soon.
