To think that men over 50 encountering a pregnant woman must make fat jokes?

My SF and FIL are both guilty. Yes I'm the size of a hippo. F**k off!!

Do that Sex and the City-type response."oh yes, I'm growing a baby. What's your excuse - are you carrying triplets?" or pat their stomachs and let yourself have a little grin. Enough said.

PoppyWearer · 17/06/2012 13:20

You could counter with the remark that other species of animal have the decency to reproduce, raise their young and then die. But that might be a bit harsh Grin.

MrsMangoBiscuit · 17/06/2012 13:22

My BiL used to greet me with "Alright Fatty!" Angry
I started answering him with "Alright Chubby!" and he stopped.

HecateTrivia · 17/06/2012 13:24

i do hate the fat jokes. it's a really odd thing to say. i agree with wheresthepopcorn and poppy that a witty reply is best.

or just a plain old "I'm not fat, I'm pregnant. They are not the same thing." with a 'what's wrong with you look on your face.

HecateTrivia · 17/06/2012 13:25

and mrsmango Grin x posted with you, not leaving you out!

thebody · 17/06/2012 13:27

Fuck Off is best response really. Why be witty as its not funny just boring.so a shut up and fuck off.

MissTapestry · 17/06/2012 13:28

Ugh, YANBU.

My neighbour, "Look! It's fattyyy!"

Me' "Wassup baldy?"

cherrypieplum · 17/06/2012 13:28

Haha!! Love these!! Grin I shall try some later!

It didn't particularly bother me but with three weeks to go and bump being huge and thighs and bum beginning to increase too, not to mention puffing up of ankles, hands and face, I'm feeling a little sensitive!

I do think there's an element of them not being able to think of anything else to say. And to be fair FIL is so excited about the baby.

Why is that an insult. Yabu

MrsMangoBiscuit · 17/06/2012 17:12

Krumbum, you think calling someone fat isn't insulting them? Confused

Alurkatsoftplay · 17/06/2012 17:16

It is written in the grumpy old man handbook that they must do this.
Extra points for making pregnant woman cry.

Krumbum · 17/06/2012 17:20

Being fat isn't a negative thing. And this is said to ppl in a lighthearted way.

slowestwildebeast · 17/06/2012 17:21

People seem to rejoice in the fact that I'm a 'stick insect' and have made comments even though I'm not pregnant about how fat I'll get, and how hilarious it will be. One of my good friends said to me "I'm not sure you're going to look right if you have a baby, you'll look like a stick that's swallowed a football"
:)

People make ridiculous comments to pregnant women, I've done it and felt like a twit after!
