to expect a delivery driver to actually try and deliver things? (I'm looking at you Yodel!)

Some of you may know that my mum died in March (2 weeks before DS, her first grandchild, was born), my dad has been really struggling so I wanted to make this Father's Day really special for him. So I bought a really lovely frame for him and ordered some photos of him and DS for it, to be on the safe side we paid extra for next day delivery. It was due to arrive yesterday, so I stayed in all day.

DH went out in the morning and when he came back there was a Yodel delivery note through the door saying we weren't in, so they'd taken the package back to their depot.

Except I was in. At absolutely no point did anyone knock at the door or ring the doorbell, we even double checked the doorbell, and it works just fine. I didn't have any music on, the TV wasn't on, DS was sleeping the whole time (so he wasn't screaming or anything), there was no way I'd have not heard!

So we call Yodel. Cannot get through.
Then we try their website. Does not work.

Finally get through to them this morning and get no apology and are told that the delivery driver has gone out so we have to wait till Monday.

So we paid extra to the printing company, who I presume paid extra to Yodel, who totally failed to do their job.

We've just had to go out and pay (again) for the prints, we also had to pay more for them as we needed them today, and we had to pay parking & petrol.

If those utter fuckwits don't deliver the prints on Monday I am going to be so fucking pissed off.

What really gets me, is the driver obviously managed to walk to our door, fill out the note and stick it through the letterbox, but couldn't be arsed to ring the doorbell and wait for us! How the fuck does that make sense?

Yodel are idiots.

They use a lot of agency staff, who also have a tendency to sign for things themselves, keep them and are never seen again.

TidyDancer · 15/06/2012 15:52

YABU to expect anything from Yodel.

Fucking steaming pile of shit. Yodel, not you.

Paiviaso · 15/06/2012 15:53

Yodel have done this to us.

I was sitting on the couch, which is a two metres from the front door. I hear some sort of shuffling at the door, cats and I look up. Go to investigate and there is a package sitting at the front door, with a notice saying I wasn't in so the package was left in a "secure" place.

The last delivery we had from Yodel they did knock - however I suspect this is because the man could tell we were home because he could hear us.

It seems to be a common problem with them - they seem to have some sort of policy of NOT BOTHERING TO SEE IF ANYONE IS HOME!

hermionestranger · 15/06/2012 15:54

They are a bunch of fuckwits. When I was pregnant with ds2 they arrived at my mums to droop off the cot mattress jnhad ordered, except they didn't drop it off but turned around in the car park and went! Luckily one of our stable girls saw the van and ran after it!

mollymole · 15/06/2012 15:55

When i waited in all day for a delivery (about which they rang at 9.15am to double check the address) they did not deliver, or put a card through.
When I finally got through to a real person he said that we had been carded
at 5.30pm as we were not in, as it was now just after 6pm the driver had returned to the depot. Now, we had not been carded at all and the driver could not have carded us at 5.30pm as stated and been back to the depot by 6pm as the depot is a good hour away. They offered to deliver Monday and I asked if delivery would be guaranteed and they said no, I then asked if I could collect the item and was told that I would need the card the driver has NOT put through the letter box as proof of ID. After I had calmed down I managed to speak to a manager, who gave me a password to use when I collected and I had to take proof of ID. When I did collect the guy there told me that my delivery had never even been on the van for Friday.
They are lying shits !!!

manicbmc · 15/06/2012 16:00

I've had this with Parcel force as well as Yodel. The postie didn't knock at all and left a card at 10.30 which said he had tried to deliver at 9.15.

I pointed out when I collected my parcel that this was a lie. Funnily enough they always knock now.

I did have problems with Yodel just leaving things on the doorstep but the local Yodel driver is pretty decent now and always knocks. If he has to leave a card, it has his mobile on so I can arrange redelivery.

cakeladyc · 15/06/2012 16:11

I've had this this week!! Ordered a baby monitor from ebay, sent to my work address, on an industrial estate where they go past us every day. Got the tracking number from the seller and tracked it, and it said the parcel was delivered. Except it never was. Well, it was but to a company on the other side of the estate, which luckily, we know. So i called Yodel tuesday and said i hadnt recieved it, and they said they would call the depot and the driver and they STILL havent called me back. I have got what i ordered but only because i went to find it. They are completley useless, both their drivers and their 'customer service' are not fit for service.

Empusa · 15/06/2012 16:11

Seems like standard procedure for them then Hmm

They shouldn't be allowed to call themselves a delivery company under the trade descriptions act really.

I am on day 10 of waiting from an item to be delivered by this shower of shit. They are so useless that the company I ordered the clothes from have sent an identical batch out to me next day delivery free of charge to make it up to me,but their company only uses Yodel and NEITHER package has turned up! It's utterly bizarre!

The tracking info showed that it was being loaded on the van then going back to the depot for the first 4 days they had it, then it showed nothing. Then they told the company that they couldn't find my house (which is next to a Sainsbury's). So we had it sent to Dh's work- they said they couldn't find it (well-known company and logo). Then they said they would definitely come today and I stayed in all day - and they came! BUT - a man shot out of the van, shoved a note through the letterbox and zoomed off before I could do anything. The card has Wednesday's date on it and says he tried to deliver at 9am, when I was in. He's clearly trying to cover his own back and why he didn't just deliver the package, I do not know! The tracking system now says it's been delivered. Neither me or the company I ordered from can get any sense from them and I can't get the items, which I really want, from a store. It feels like they've decided not to give me my items to teach me a lesson about causing a fuss, or something!

WhiteWidow · 15/06/2012 17:19

You can claim for deliveries not turning up. A fella on Daybreak did it when his fridge (I think it was this or maybe a sofa) didn't turn up

EdgarAllenPimms · 15/06/2012 17:19

YABU we all know round here that all they have to do is shove the 'sorry we missed you' thing through your letterbox.

the number of times i have found these and been in all morning.....

(though YANBU to be bloody annoyed by iT!!)

PoppyWearer · 15/06/2012 17:20

Yodel are awful. Sympathy, OP.

TheSkiingGardener · 15/06/2012 17:22

My wine society order was once entrusted to Yodel.

It never stood a chance if getting here really did it?

OxfordBags · 15/06/2012 17:23

That's good to know, WhiteWidow, will get onto that.

Iamnotamindreader · 15/06/2012 17:24

I've been waiting for a shipment of dog food and according to Yodels website its been milling around with a courier (having a pasty perhaps) approximately 50 miles away for the last 2 days.
No attempt has been made to deliver so far and I'm beginning to wonder if I will start receiving postcards from my errant parcels travels before I actually get my stuff.

PinkChampagneandStrawberries · 15/06/2012 17:27

Yanbu they done the exact same thing to me after I fucking paid £10 for next day delivery

BarredfromhavingStella · 15/06/2012 17:34

Yodel are renowned for this-I have had the same thing happen with the post office though, baffles me why they wouldn't just knock on the door when they are stood in front of it Hmm

soontobesolo · 15/06/2012 17:37

YANBU same happened to me too, I waited in all day for a DVD for DS, checked website saying out for delivery then finally it said attempted delivery at 5.45 scanned in at depot 6 pm yet the depot is about 45 mins away.

This was ordered through Amazon Prime so I am paying for guaranteed next day delivery. Next day YODEL put DVD through our letterbox without knocking although I was in the hallway about 6 feet away through a glass door, so clearly they didn't want to talk to me and could have delivered the DVD the day before if they had not been lying about being in the area. Although Amazon gives you an extra month on Amazon Prime every time this happens if you complain, there is not much point being in Amazon Prime if they are going to use YODEL as I have pointed out to them at length!

ColouringIn · 15/06/2012 17:39

Yodel are notoriously bad - have dealt with them before.

Empusa · 15/06/2012 17:54

One good bit of news, Photobox (who we ordered from) have just sent us compensation for Yodel fucking up! They absolutely did not have to as they did their part of the job, but I am hugely grateful to them Grin

Good to see not everyone has crappy customer service like Yodel
