Those women are larger than we're used to seeing in adverts, but they look good.

Cockwomble · 16/06/2012 11:25

Look at the caption under the top two photos, the woman top right next to the special k image is one of their plus size models.

And also the caption under the row of women "the women show off their figures for the new ad campaign"

hmm the bikini woman is the old model, the one piece women are the new ones. Read the article and captions.

This is a proper genuine question.

Which one of these women in the pictures in the article is the plus size? I honestly can't tell - they all look roughly the same size. They all look in the 'normal range to me.

Cockwomble: but when you watch the ad the women in the red swimsuits aren't in it.

Cockwomble · 16/06/2012 14:06

Haha I didn't even watch the ad Blush my intial reaction was about them saying the women photographed were plus sized! Oops mayhap I should watch the ad

Cockwomble I didn't either! I clocked the photos were old ones but didn't spot the video.

I do think its a rather interesting example though.

The number of women who thought the models were plus sized or bigger than normal was interesting; even though they weren't. I think it shows some women can't tell the difference from a photograph - some can, some can't - so when we are judging what are we actually judging against? A photo or an idea in our heads?

If its an idea in our heads, thats not about what we are ACTUALLY seeing its about the message we are receiving with it that is influencing us.

It also shows that if you see yourself in a picture are you always able to accurately gauge your size or is a photo an unreliable bit of evidence as whats in your head is more influential and can overrule what you are actually seeing.

Better off having some nice filling lean protein for breakfast anyway than any cereal...

Bloody ridiculous article. Misleading as ever. Bloody ridiculous situation that women of average size are being called plus size as well.

This, btw, is complete shite:
"Body Mass Index - the formula usually used to determine a person?s fat levels" - it does nothing of the kind. It is purely a calculation based on the person's height and weight, and if they're extremely heavy then it will be high, but it does NOT give a person's fat levels. If they're very muscular (rugby players, for e.g.) they will have a high BMI as well. Bloody useless shitty reporting.
