I think all those women look lovely - and not much bigger than the woman in the bikini, to be honest.

I hate ads using 'real women' (also hate that phrase) because it actually makes me feel worse about myself. I'm quite happy to look at a model and think I don't look like because she's a model and that's her job blah blah.

But a 'real woman' makes it much harder to do that. It makes me feel like a failure because I am also a 'real woman' but I certainly don't have nice hair, or perfect teeth, or look like that in a (admittedly slightly odd) swimsuit.

Stick with models, I say!

WhiteWidow · 15/06/2012 15:54

I hate this 'plus size' stuff.

I got put forwarded for modelling and ended up being offered some 'plus size' work. I am classed as plus size(12-14) but if that's the average size why is it considered 'plus'. Angry

wordfactory · 15/06/2012 15:55

I was listening to the Daily Cervix earlier and a woman was saying she had done some research into how women felt about sleb Mums supposedly pinging back into shape etc and she said, some thought 'ah well, it's all air brushing etc' but there were others who felt inferior because of it.

AThingInYourLife · 15/06/2012 16:17

What is the Daily Cervix?

MarySA · 15/06/2012 16:21

I was expecting to see cows, not people. Honestly, it's such a totally silly advert. What is all this real women nonsense. Women come in all shapes and sizes.

wordfactory · 15/06/2012 16:23

The Daily Cervix = Women's Hour.

ChaoticismyLife · 15/06/2012 16:27

Real women come in all shapes and sizes, if you're female and breathing you're a real woman.

Wrt sizes, a woman who is 5ft 8in and a size 12 will look different to a woman who is the same size and 5ft 1in.

Having said that I would never consider a woman who is a 12 to be plus sized. I'm an 18, I consider me to be plus sized.

cheesesarnie · 15/06/2012 16:28

also hate 'real women' im a 6 im real, friends are 8, 10, 12, 14 etc etc they are also real.

in women 'real' relates to body weight.
in men 'real' relates to masculinity.

????

ChaoticismyLife · 15/06/2012 16:30

When I opened this thread I was expecting to see a rant, from the OP, about someone calling her a 'skinny minnie' or some other equally deogratry name.

Mrsjay · 15/06/2012 16:42

hate real women anything lorraine kelly was wittering on about the real womens Bikini diet fuck of lorraine

Poulay · 15/06/2012 16:46

DS likes Special K, fuck knows why it is solely marketed at women.

The chocolate + red berries one is nice

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 15/06/2012 16:48

Not sure I'm getting this....

The pictures in the article are of women who are in the red swimsuit.

BUT

The lady interviewed says this:
Katie McNeil, a beauty therapist, from Chobham, Surrey, was shopping in Covent Garden when she was asked to take part.

The 36-year-old mother of two, who has a BMI of 29 and is a size 14-16, said: ?It can be depressing for women when they see skinny models on TV all the time.

?Thankfully, they didn?t make us wear that red swimsuit.

Note - she says they didn't have to wear the red swimsuit.

So my question would be:
Is the Daily Fail article actually misleading and are they using an old picture of models in the red swimsuit rather than using a picture of the new models?

Is criticism of the 'fat heffers' in the article wrong, because the Daily Fail isn't actually showing them in the first place???!

Eh? If you're less then a size 12 are you a 'pretend' woman then???

Cockwomble · 15/06/2012 22:03

The lady on her own in a one piece at the top of the article is one of their plus size models I believe.

I don't think anyone who saw me would call me a skinny minnie! I am a chunky 14 with thighs of sturdy thunder!

I think they are heavy, TBH. I certainly would not be happy with myself at that size.

MarysBeard · 16/06/2012 09:03

Well, that says more about you than anyone else, Drucilla. I'd certainly be happy with myself if I was in the healthy BMI range. In fact I'm happy with myself even though I'm overweight, but I'd feel more healthy and fit being lighter, so do want to lose some weight.

AKissIsNotAContract · 16/06/2012 09:14

Are you talking about the pictures that the mail has used for the article or the new advert they have posted at the bottom? You can't see the women's bodies in the ad, although their faces are all above average beauty. Another misleading article from the mail.

DrCoconut · 16/06/2012 10:08

"She has a faraway look in her eyes, just like a cat has when it's taking a shit" Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Too funny!

bumbleymummy · 16/06/2012 10:28

The original model didn't look ridiculously thin. She looked perfectly healthy to me.

lattelov3r · 16/06/2012 10:44

tbf we all know that following the special k diet isnt going to get us that special k bikini bod but thats marketing, looking at the pictures the women in the line all look fab slightly chunkier of thigh than you would usualy see on a model but an attainable figure the pic of the woman in the bikini IS better imo she looks fab (chest looks false though) [sceptical] but that look is unattainable by most certainly without an excellent diet and exercise programme and alot of work

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 16/06/2012 10:47

lattelov3r the women in the photos, aren't the new models. They are the old ones. The caption for the photo of the lady in the bikini even says "Berry thin: How the 'K girl' models used in the brand's advertising used to look"!!!!!

Its a poor article as its not obvious.
