Well you mix pork and beef mince together so it should be ok? And I'll turn it into a lasagne? Or will it just be too odd a combination?

It'll be ok.

MousyMouse · 14/06/2012 09:36

sounds lovely!

Pork and beef mince? Yuck! just use beef mince here! That said, I am the queen of leftovers so yes, i would mix it in :o

Idocrazythings · 14/06/2012 09:39

Great! Thanks Smile. I'll give it a go! So sick of throwing out food.

What sort of leftovers do you have? I use left over veggies in soup or whizz them up and stir them into whatever saucy thing we are having (spag bol, casserole etc). Meaty leftovers I ..... pretty much do the same actually!

If there is enough for a meal then I freeze in in a labelled bag for emergency meals. When I was very ill during my pg there were 6 different meals served up :o

Idocrazythings · 14/06/2012 09:44

Bogeyface- I don't mix them beef and pork either, but I think in Italian cooking they do it a lot- supposed to be really good

It will be fine.

I often chop chorizo into spag bol or chilli, kids love it.

fruitysummer · 14/06/2012 09:45

I wouldn't but only becasue I'd make the chicken into a curry or mix it with mayo for cold sandwiches.

Tomato sauce I'd add to the bolognaise or make into soup.

Idocrazythings · 14/06/2012 09:52

BF. same really just extra servings of meals, unused veges, etc. It's been better lately since I've started making double meals and freezing a whole meal for a busy day. But the chicken sauce was just staring at me in the fridge and I knew no one would eat it of I served it up as is, plus there wasn't enough for the five of us.

I hadnt heard that Ido but always happy to try anything once (which I would rather not discuss in detail Wink :o ).

Will give that a go then!

bogeyface · 14/06/2012 09:53

Thats what got me started on freezing after I ended up throwing away almost enough food to feed everyone, just different things. Its very annoying isnt it?!

lashingsofbingeinghere · 14/06/2012 09:54

I would keep them separate and pretend you are at a restaurant and offer either/both!

I sometimes do this with stir in sauces - two types of sauces to make two separate dishes which can then be served with rice.

lashingsofbingeinghere · 14/06/2012 09:55

btw the op is mixing chicken with beef, not pork, which is why I would keep them separate.

Bogeyface........a lot of lasagne's made the traditional way have bacon or lardons in them.

My SIL does it this way and it takes her the whole day, I can't be bothered but her lasagne is bloody delish!

Idocrazythings · 14/06/2012 10:03

Well there's no going back now! It's all mixed together, looks ok, chicken is a bit chunky but it's breast and in the slow cooker so it might disintegrate a bit. I'll be interested to see if anyone notices hehe (evil laugh).

I'd love to make curries out of left overs, but they won't eat it. Have only just managed to win the kids over on lasagne, and am now trying to get them into soup.

Well, we've just had dinner- thought I'd report back! No one noticed and it tasted really nice. I think because it was a lasagne it was less noticeable with all the cheese and pasta. Smile

I thought it'd be ok.

Regarding mixing of ground pork and beef, I bought some, plus grounded veal to make Italian style meatballs. Have not done it homemade before but have eaten them (some frozen ones we buy for those times when we don't want to cook) many times, and they are really good for some reason.
