about peanut butter?

I say it's savoury. My husband says it's sweet. "I would put it in the same bracket as Nutella" he says. I would have it as a savoury option on toast. I know it has sugar in it, Weetabix does as well but I'm sure most people would say that is savoury.

So, peanut butter: savoury or sweet?

doesnt matter. in our house we call it the killer, because it has the potential to do that to one of my kids.

(i miss it though, havent had it for years, cant even have it in house!)

Shutupanddrive · 13/06/2012 20:00

I don't know but it's disgusting, hate it

luisgarcia · 13/06/2012 20:00

Unless you're eating spoonfuls of it on its own, I'd say it depends what you're having it with.

Savoury. Definitely.

Bunbaker · 13/06/2012 20:01

I only like it as a savoury spread on toast or in satay sauce. So, to me, it is savoury.

MrsHelsBels74 · 13/06/2012 20:01

Depends which brand you buy. Sunpat is very sweet in my opinion but whole earth is more savoury.

gamerwidow · 13/06/2012 20:02

Sweet its in the same category as jam and marmalade.
Savoury is more like marmite or pate.

crashdoll · 13/06/2012 20:02

Smooth and only Skippy. I spit in the face of other peanut butters, nothing compares to my beloved smooth reduced fat Skippy.

happyhopefulmummy · 13/06/2012 20:02

I was hoping you lot could settle it! On it's own, savoury or sweet? So weird, I would never have even considered it to be sweet...

Oh and savoury.

GobbleLeKnob · 13/06/2012 20:03

I don't eat sugar but occasionally have Whole Earth Peanut butter that is made form something like 97% peanuts, 2% oil and 1% sugar so has very little added sugar and I find it unbelivably sweet.

So I vote sweet.

happyhopefulmummy · 13/06/2012 20:04

ah, X-post...

Savoury when it's on toast, sweet when it's spread on apple slices.

BubbleBobble · 13/06/2012 20:07

Sweet. It's a bit like chocolate covered pretzels in that they are also sweet, but salty at the same time.

ErikNorseman · 13/06/2012 20:07

Savoury of course! Is a peanut sweet? No. The pnb I buy doesn't have sugar in though cheap and nasty types can taste quite sweet.

bigbadbarry · 13/06/2012 20:09

Definitely savoury, even with jam. Even in peanut butter cups, though they are sweets...

squeakytoy · 13/06/2012 20:11

it can be either... savoury if on chicken satay, sweet if used to make muffins

Savoury, even when there's sugar in it.

Meridian foods sell peanut, avocado, and cashew nut butter with no added sugar. I buy them for DS.

lovebunny · 13/06/2012 20:13

don't know. get the healthy option. and don't feed it to your children, it can seal the windpipe.

ItWasABoojum · 13/06/2012 20:13

Savoury, because you can have it with savoury stuff and that makes it savoury by default. You wouldn't call bread sweet just because it's possible to put jam on it.

Also - smooth. I know it's a controversial choice, but you get a more satisfying level of mouth-clag with the smooth stuff, which surely is the whole point of peanut butter?

Aboutlastnight · 13/06/2012 20:16

Lidl's American peanut butter is lovely. I have it on toast every morning. It is the reason why I can't lose that extra half stone.

Aboutlastnight · 13/06/2012 20:17

Surely it can only seal your windpipe if you..er...inhale it.

Springforward · 13/06/2012 20:18

Savoury. And it must be crunchy!
