about peanut butter?

I say it's savoury. My husband says it's sweet. "I would put it in the same bracket as Nutella" he says. I would have it as a savoury option on toast. I know it has sugar in it, Weetabix does as well but I'm sure most people would say that is savoury.

So, peanut butter: savoury or sweet?

guess so, about! but i recall all the warnings... must have been in the eighties. all i can say is, it's no less sticky today!

maddiemostmerry · 13/06/2012 20:36

I would say sweet, although most disagree with me. Only crunchyGrin

RillaBlythe · 13/06/2012 20:38

Crunchy, no added sugar or salt. Love it, it's a staple in this house. Savoury.

thisisyesterday · 13/06/2012 20:41

both!

i buy one that has no added sugar or salt anyway, so it's just um, "nutty"

I guess on its own I would call it savoury. just like a bowl of nuts would be savoury.
however, in a sandwich with jam i suppose it's a sweet thing?
it's equally good in cakes/biscuits as it is in a stew (just a small spoonful of smooth.. yum!)

so maybe neither?

thisisyesterday · 13/06/2012 20:41

oh, and crunchy all the way

halcyondays · 13/06/2012 20:41

Savoury. It tastes more salty than sweet.

ItWasABoojum · 13/06/2012 20:43

Random - cor! Want!

Usedtobefun · 13/06/2012 20:45

Definitely savoury, I have the whole earth no added sugar.

I also like it on toast with marmite, it is most definitely savoury then!!

nocake · 13/06/2012 20:46

Savoury. I also eat Whole Earth which contains no sugar.

shewhowines · 13/06/2012 21:05

Savoury

BUT WHAT IS THIS BUSINESS OF CALLING WHEATABIX SAVOURY? - Thats sweet of course!!!!!

BetterChoicesChair · 13/06/2012 21:13

It's both depending on the application and the brand you buy. I get an all-natural one that's JUST peanuts so I use it for baking (cookies) and for things like stir fry.

Do allergic families really call it "death in a jar" and "the killer" Hmm. How ridiculous. It's an incredibly healthy food for most people.

motherinferior · 13/06/2012 21:14

With chocolate spread it is sweet. With hot lime pickle it is savoury. Fact.

DamnBamboo · 13/06/2012 21:15

Depends on the brand.

Some are savoury, some are sweet.

That sunpat shit is sweet, the organic whole food type ones that just have peanut and oil are savoury.

TheCunningStunt · 13/06/2012 21:20

Savoury....that's why it goes so well with sweet things...like jam. It cuts through it. Also a tablespoon is great in a stirfry. Oh, and crunchy!

My DH eats it with Bovril, my mum eats it with bananas. So I guess it's like cream cheese - a neutral paste of stuff.

But we keep it on the top shelf of our cupboards because it is deadly to me. Once my DH accidently kissed me after eating it at lunchtime (4 hours later) and i spent the rest of the day with hives around my mouth vomiting away merrily.

PrettyPrinceofParties · 14/06/2012 08:08

The first dessert I made after going vegan was chocolate and peanut butter cheesecake. My god it's divine, even non vegan friends love it. The lidl stuff is ridiculously addictive. Nom nom nom.

I didn't mind about sugar as it makes very little difference to calories. I' trying to eat more 'wholesomely' now though, so perhaps I'll switch!

PrettyPrinceofParties · 14/06/2012 08:09

Oh yes, sweet and savoury and smooth for me!

FoofFighter · 14/06/2012 08:09

Savoury.

This has taken me far more time than it should have to decide on this!

carabos · 14/06/2012 09:31

Both. I've had it (crunchy, organic, unsweetened) on dark rye Ryvita with mashed banana for breakfast today. Yum.
