To think that people have the principles they can afford?

Do you have, or know anyone that does, principles that would absolutely not be ditched in the event of greater wealth?

garlicbum · 14/06/2012 15:32

Oh, for goodness sake, please will you knackered-keyboard people buy one of these?

AbsofAwesomeness · 14/06/2012 15:32

POST THE EMAIL

AbsofAwesomeness · 14/06/2012 15:33

Well, you can buy it online through amazon for $16

Hullygully · 14/06/2012 15:33

No I really can't obviously.

Mine was all wounded dignity and hurt and hers was faux-sorry and yeah-but-you-is-scum

AbsofAwesomeness · 14/06/2012 15:35

Well, if you're not going to post the email at least post her name or address so we can slag her off, or go around and beat her up

northernruth · 14/06/2012 15:36

Been away for a while and have missed this type of thread! Sorry to barge in.......

Hully, there would be no use us having socialist principles (don't know if I would qualify but YKWIM) if only poor people believed in socialism. Your friend is implying that you can't have socialist beliefs if you earn good money and enjoy some benefits of that. We need the wealthy to support the idea of helping those with need.

I guess I'm a champagne socialist. More a Pinot Grigio solicalist actually. I am a banker and earn good money. Not million pound bonuses (or any bonus in recent times) and less than most of the lawyers I know.

I don't believe in private school so my DD won't be going there. I don't mind private medical but understand the arguments against. Private school perpetuates the class system and is one of the reason that the government today have no sympathy or understanding of the working class etc - not only are they not working class but they've never rubbed shoulders with anyone "normal".

I could afford lots of things that I don't buy (private education being one of them) but I find the cost of some things abhorrent. But then again, designers are always being ripped off by the high street so my cheaper tastes are taking money out of the original creative's pocket.

northernruth · 14/06/2012 15:36

*socialist not solicalist........

FioFio · 14/06/2012 15:37

we all liked the special sauce at the wimpey

We were never allowed McDonalds or KFC due to animal rights issues. I am not sure how the Wimpey was different but maybe the wimpey was a compromise....

Hullygully · 14/06/2012 15:38

you're not barging in northernruth, woudl you like a pickle sandwich to mash in my friend's face?

OP posts:
Hullygully · 14/06/2012 15:38

are they alive? Could you ask them? I am dying to know.

FioFio · 14/06/2012 15:40

My Mum is on holiday with my Step Father atm, I am not sure she would appreciate a phonecall to discuss the ethics of Wimpey in the 1980's, but it may give them something to talk about.

ExitPursuedByABear · 14/06/2012 15:40

Wimpey was pre KFC and McDs wasn't it?

Not that I ever go into any of them, because of my principles. Oh yes.

Abs - I bet they would not send it to the UK.

FioFio · 14/06/2012 15:41

No, KFC and McDonalds existed when i was a child too. The McDonalds in Walsall High Street had a train and everything upstairs but we were never allowed in :(

Hullygully · 14/06/2012 15:45

wimpey was first though, maybe it was as dull as that. You'll have to ask them now.

OP posts:
ExitPursuedByABear · 14/06/2012 15:45

But maybe not when your parents were growing up. Wimpey was probably the only choice.

scummymummy · 14/06/2012 15:46

Wimpey was differnt because it sold vile dried out beanburgers. There is still a Wimpey in Debden, if anyone haxs a burning desire to visit a Wimpey. It is one of Debden's highlights, I would say.

Hullygully · 14/06/2012 15:47

I loved wimpey. Brown Derbys yummmmmmmmmmm

What does Michael say?

OP posts:
FioFio · 14/06/2012 15:49

Margate still has one too. I particularly like their quarter pounders with cheese Blush Thank god I don't live by one...

as for when my parents were growing up, they still haven't unfortunately

scummymummy · 14/06/2012 15:51

Margate has a Wimpey? I would go to that one rather than the Debden one in that case, folks.

FioFio · 14/06/2012 15:52

yep it's right on the seafront

Micheal Caine says 'My name is Micheal Caine' but I can't remember whether that's him or a comedy sketch Blush

He also says, "You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off"

But I want to know what he said about money and pickle in the face

northernruth · 14/06/2012 15:54

Your "friend" is just being snippy. Agree she needs some kind of sandwich in her face........
