Do you have, or know anyone that does, principles that would absolutely not be ditched in the event of greater wealth?

OP posts:
scummymummy · 14/06/2012 14:57

I would describe myself as a lefty, if forced into using a label, I think. nice and vague! basically I am a fan of the state offering support to all its citizens, particularly the vulnerable, and think kindness and social justice are the most important social goods.

SpringHeeledJack · 14/06/2012 14:57

It's a bit like putting too much pickle in your sandwich. You wouldn't eat the sandwich because it would taste awful. So, you scrape some off. Full on socialism would make you (family) miserable. It doesn't mean you don't have principles.

Hullygully · 14/06/2012 15:02

That pickle one would baffle the said person a bit. Good one.

ExitPursuedByABear · 14/06/2012 15:04

I'm a bit wafty when it comes to my politics.

Can I be a Wafty Whig?

AbsofAwesomeness · 14/06/2012 15:05

me? I go for "genius"

yellowraincoat · 14/06/2012 15:07

Anyone who tries to tell people what they should do with their lives/politics/family can safely be labelled a twat.

AbsofAwesomeness · 14/06/2012 15:08

When I do the political compass-y test I always come up somewhere next to Ghandi, so kind of lefty liberal.

when I was running my own country on Facebook I was somewhat more autocratic than Stalin. Poor people of my fake country [sa]d

I'd make a wonderful dictator. It's my dream

Hullygully · 14/06/2012 15:09

But but when we (in rl) is having big ol political discussions, does it mean I have to say I'm not allowed an opinion because of how I live?

OP posts:
TuftyFinch · 14/06/2012 15:09

Good. You still have a cheese and pickle sandwich. There's no law on how much/little pickle you need before it stops being a cheese and pickle sandwich.

SHJ I've had to stop using my laptop because the puppy ate A, S and W. They are now just the stumps. And the space bar. I'm using my phone.

Hullygully · 14/06/2012 15:09

Is Ghandi in the bottom left quadrant? I come up there too if yes.

OP posts:
AbsofAwesomeness · 14/06/2012 15:12

Yes, bottom left

Of COURSE you can participate in political discussions. If someone says you can't, they're being a twat. And if they're someone purporting to be a lovey-dovey socialist, they're being even MORe of a twat. Freedom of speech and all that.

scummymummy · 14/06/2012 15:12

Pickle analogy depends a lot on how much you like pickle... and which pickle are we talking about here? I am not keen on branston but like plenty of chilli and lime. piccalily is ok. I think hully is worried that she has scraped off all the pickle. and if you do scrape off all the pickle is it still a left wing sandwich?

yellowraincoat · 14/06/2012 15:12

Of course you're allowed an opinion.

Everyone maintains the status quo to some extent. It's sort of hard not to when you live within a system.

TuftyFinch · 14/06/2012 15:13

Hully no of course not! I can see how some people would throw it into the argument though. Do your friends carry notebooks to make lists of each misdemeanour? Do they wear black clothes with a beret placed just so?
