AIBU & WWYD DH & DD1 motorbike trip....

DH and dd1 (7yo) are planning to go off to top of Scotland on DHs motorbike for approx a week in July.

I'm shit scared something bad will happen while they are away, and the last few nights it's played on my mind :(

DH says I'm bring daft and they'll be fine. He is a safe rider, but it's other road users that bother me.

DD has been on bike before, she has ALL the necessary safety wear and is comfortable on the bike. They will be doing a mixture of camping/travel inn and b&b.

Do I let her go? I will be at home with small DCs during this trip.

No. It is way too dangerous.Statistiacally for every 1000 miles travelled on a motorbike there is a 1 in 2854 chance of being killed. Are you happy with that?
In fact the chance of either one of them being killed would be half that ie 1426.And that's before you even think of non-fatal injury eg paralysis

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 26/07/2012 14:02

Cary, they're on their way home.

McKayz · 26/07/2012 14:52

Why do people not bother reading long threads before posting?

It's a shame they've had to cut their holiday short but I bet it's helping your blood pressure. Hopefully they can re do the planned trip in the campervan with you all.

Babylon1 · 26/07/2012 15:42

They are indeed on their way home now Grin

By too limiting I meant everything takes 3x as long - DH has to get both him and dd rigged up in safety wear every time they get on the bike, then again at a wee stop etc etc.

They've tried it, it didn't work out, no great shakes - and yes we will do the whole trip all together in the campervan very soon!!

I'll let you know when they're back safe, but I can't thank you all enough for the support and kind posts on this thread Smile

Lastly, where do some posters get their numbers from Hmm Confused Grin

Shame they are having to cut their holiday short. I wouldn't have been happy with it having had a friend decapitated from a motorbike accident and another two deceased all from other road users but I wouldn't have tried to put my foot down.

Here's to a slightly less worrying holiday in the future! Smile

Pantah630 · 26/07/2012 16:07

Carycach how am I still here after 20+ years of daily biking? Statistics are easily skewed and I'd put hand on heart that is a load of bollocks!!!!

And read the thread, they're on their way home.

Well to be fair, that´s travelling with a young child.

Seems as if he´s been easily put off once the reality set in!

Noqontrol · 26/07/2012 16:26

Glad its gone ok so far. Hope they have a safe journey back. Hopefully not much longer now?

Kim, I was really surprised the first time I went on the back of my Mums bike. Its quite cold while you are moving but bloody horrible when you stop.

Babylon1 · 26/07/2012 19:07

That's what they have found - cold when travelling but too hot when stopped!!

They should be walking in the door in the next half hour or so, and do it's not too bad for them, I've got the car packed and we're straight off down south for some beach time Grin

Diddl, he wasn't easily put off, things didn't go to plan and he wouldn't cause any discomfort for our dd. It was their decision to cut short the break and they made that decision for the right reasons Wink

Sorry it's not worked out for them but glad you'll all get to spend some lovely time together at the beach! Have a fabulous time Grin

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 26/07/2012 19:24

I've only just found your thread and so I've had a little roller coaster ride Grin

It's a great shame it didn't go to plan, but hopefully DD isn't too upset and the bonus is the DH is selling the bike while he's pissed off with it, not after they've just had a brilliant trip and regretting it Grin

Have fun at the beach!!

Babylon1 · 26/07/2012 21:45

Thanks guys!!!! We're well on our way down south now - my little adventurers made it back in one piece, DH is really fed up so I'm going to do my best to cheer him up!!!! Grin

Babylon1, your DH should forever thank you for the trust you put in him. And your daughter will still remember it forever. It will quite possibly be her favourite holiday ever, even though it was cut short.

GoTeamkozy · 26/07/2012 22:17

Oh yes, have a great holiday. :)

Babylon1 · 27/07/2012 22:06

Well I'm having a lovely time in sunny Kent Grin

Great day today with DCs god mother, looking forward to rest of wknd GrinGrin
