I am a secondary English teacher and mostly enjoy my job. But today was fab! For the last 2 years I have been running an after-school class (voluntarily) for a small group of g&t students to take A level eng lit a year early. They are now yr12 and about to sit A2.
I took them and me off timetable for 4 hours today for intensive revision and exam technique work. We had a lovely time - they were focused, asked really intelligent, searching questions, brought cake...gorgeous.
I took a surprise in for them too - one of the set books is Carol Ann Duffy's Rapture; it has a picture of what can only be described as testicular figs on the cover. I had a talented friend of mine make a delicious choc cake which looked exactly like the pic on the front - the students loved it and great hilarity ensued (followed by much cake-eating).
Really lovely day.
