I'm desperate for a Smart car, apparently they are like a dream to drive.

KenNEddieKennedy · 13/06/2012 17:09

I've seen Smart cars hooked onto the back of those touring caravans, how fab is that - Get to where you want to spend a few days, pitch up, unhook your Smart car and off you go!

fruitysummer · 13/06/2012 17:13

Yes, I've seen that too

And as you've brought the subject up, me and DH would love one of those tourers and we are seriously considering putting his lump sum pension payment towards one.

Are they as universally hated as 4x4's anyone???

KenNEddieKennedy · 13/06/2012 17:18

Not by me....

Now caravans ...That's a WHOLE 'nother subject!

Everlong - an email went round a few years ago, it was bloody awful.

It showed the aftermath of an accident involving a smart car - it had been involved with another smallish car, nothing huge and certainly not a 4x4.

I won't give details, unless someone actually wants me to, as i'm sure you can all imagine.

Ken - caravans pulled by 4x4's must be extra annoying, no? Grin

bigjoeent · 13/06/2012 17:27

But not as annoying as caravans not being pulled by 4x4s. Smile

KenNEddieKennedy · 13/06/2012 17:29

Yes, far more annoying are the caravans being pulled by something like a Fiesta and snaking all over the road, a 4x4 is at least useful for caravan pulling.

crashdoll · 13/06/2012 17:30

I tell you which car doesn't not look or feel safe; Ford KA. It's like a tin can on wheels and I was always nervy in it aged 18 and a brand new driver. It is (or was?) a very popular first time car but my mechanic friend said one bad accident and you're toast. Never getting one again!

IvanaHumpalot · 13/06/2012 17:34

Love my Smart. School run, weekly shop, festival camping for 2 - tent, airbeds etc... I don't pack light! Cheap to run, squeeze into any parking space. I've driven up north and down to Cornwall. Difficult to decide what to buy when I need an extra seat!

Toaster24 · 13/06/2012 17:50

if the crushed-smart-car photo you saw was this one, the car was actually a 4x4!

thebody · 13/06/2012 17:51

Need my 4x4 7 seater to run my business as a cm so it's vital.

Couldn't give a stuff what people think.

My ds is ' Eco friendly' and critisised once until I pointed out to her that her 4 flights a year weren't exactly green either.

JugglingWithTangentialOranges · 13/06/2012 18:08

I do feel you slightly mis-represented my posts and comments in your 9.45 post this morningRinder and were a bit OTT using the phrase "a grossly crass and hurtful statement" I forget exactly what I said now, but I expect I could have been more careful in how it came across. But it wasn't that bad, surely !

I guess it all comes down to using that {angry} Angry emoticon.

Seems you have to be very careful with those. I was just feeling angry because of the dangerous state of our roads and the number of accidents, especially involving our children. It wasn't meant to be so personal.

Toaster24 · 13/06/2012 18:09

thebody 4 flights a year is definitely a larger carbon footprint than running a 7-seater instead of a saloon car. Tell your sister she needs to have more care for the planet! Wink

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 13/06/2012 18:11

Yeah I had a KA and it did feel unsafe. My boyfriend drove into the back of a 4x4 (quite slowly) and wrote the whole thing off and the other car just needed £200 to sort a small dent.

He was very nice the 4x4 driver actually.

His car just pinged it off like an annoying fly.

Whatevertheweather · 13/06/2012 18:16

Something for everyone to hate 4x4 Smart Car Wink

Whatevertheweather · 13/06/2012 18:17

Bugger link fail 4x4 Smart Car

Whatevertheweather · 13/06/2012 18:19

Ok I give up links clearly aren't working on the mobile app Blush

One more try

IvanaHumpalot · 13/06/2012 18:30

Ahhhhhhh Weather Pimp my Smart

I can't decide between the tank tracks or monster Smart. If I go for the tracks do you thing I can attach a small missile launcher to the front of the car to blast others out of my way? I think my DS would like monster.
Decisions decisions...

BarredfromhavingStella · 13/06/2012 18:35

Toaster Shock That photo proves the point I made earlier entirely-don't give a shit what you drive, trucks are king no matter how 'modern' your car may be.

Rindercella · 13/06/2012 18:45

Grin Whatever, link worked fine for me & is very funny!

Juggling, yes, you're right I was a little OTT. And thank you for your comments. I honestly wasn't trying to be patronising earlier, but it really is true that the written word can frequently be misinterpreted, quite often depending on what the reader wants to read! A little bit like statistics in fact Grin

Perception on road safety & the state of our roads is interesting. According to this, Britain has by far the best road safety in Europe. And, also the number of serious injuries and fatalities caused by RTAs have decreased significantly over the years here Of course, all deaths on all roads (here or elsewhere) are desperate and everything should be done to reduce accidents as much as possible. I am going on holiday in Italy soon and am going to have to hire a car. Am slightly worried tbh looking at their road stats. I lived out there for a couple of years and drove my English car there, but that was 20 years ago when I was young & fearless and I didn't have two chattering DDs in the back of my car! Hmm, perhaps I should hire a fuck off 4x4 Hmm Grin

Whatevertheweather · 13/06/2012 19:01

Think it must be the mobile app as no links look right on any thread!

Rindercella · 13/06/2012 19:15

You're right. I have just logged in on my iPad and the links aren't doing their thing .
