I miss the days of mark and lard, jo Wiley and Steve Lamaq in the evening with Annie nightingale after and John peel.
Dh still listens, I think he thinks he's cool

ComposHat · 12/06/2012 17:38

Bronze thankfully most of them are now on 6music so I can re-live the past.

LisaLaundryThatsLAAANDRY · 12/06/2012 20:47

I've never liked it becuase of the fact they don't play all the song and talk through most of it.

milkymocha · 12/06/2012 20:50

No iam 20 and i hate it Smile
I have taste!

WhereMyMilk · 12/06/2012 20:52

Sorry, I love R1!

Am a faithful Mr Moyles fan. Love Scott Mills, so pissed off he got moved.

Didn't used to like Sara Cox, but she's changed. Now genuinely funny and self depreciating. Love how she interviews celebs and asks them really inane things. Also like Fearne. Even if she doesn't find new music, she does champion and certainly has put me onto some good stuff, such as Birdy and Nina Nesbitt of recent times.

Am an old lady of 44.

DD aged 8 likes Classic fm! :o

HerBigChance · 12/06/2012 20:59

I grew up with Radio 1, too (275 and 285!) and loved it, particularly John Peel and the breakfast show. I wonder if it is as relevant to its target audience as it was to me at the time.

Now I listen to radio 2 for natter and tunes, Radio 4 for a range of programmes, 6Music for fab music, 4Extra for drama and BBC London for local stuff and Robert Elms. Overall, I listen to more radio than ever.

VonHerrBurton · 12/06/2012 21:04

Oh God, is R1 classed as 'trendy' in some areas...? Jeez, if it is, I know of nobody in their teens/twenties that thinks it's anything but uttershite where I am! So I guess the definition of 'cool' varies up and down the country...

EdgarAllenPimms · 12/06/2012 21:05

Radio 1 hating isn't even a matter of age. it doesn't have enough music and if you are trying to work somewhere noisy/ driving you don't want to have to listen too hard to inane chatter from eg mark and lard. It doesn't even have much of a different playlist - same pop, more talked plop.

Southern FM, capitol gold, virgin, all preferred workplace music radio.

although these days at home it is only Radio 4.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 13/06/2012 09:24

I can't bear local or commercial radio, mainly because of the adverts. I also loathe radio drama; it's always toe-curling. Some radio comedy is good though. Why is that?

puds11 · 13/06/2012 09:25

Its shit. Fern cotton is a dick, chris moyles is a fat bully, jo wiley = nobber.
Much prefer classic fm, and im 24.

BamBam21 · 13/06/2012 09:39

Hate R1, it's truly awful. I listened to it in my teens, as I felt I had to Hmm.

It's now Planet Rock all the way for me. Ye cannae beat a bit o' metal! (Unless you're a panel beater)Grin

Eglu · 13/06/2012 09:43

YANBU Radio 1 plays crap music and the presenters talk too much. My Mum still listens to it though and she is 59.

AKMD · 13/06/2012 10:01

YANBU and I am not yet 25. I used to listen to it when it actually played music though.

Buntingbunny · 13/06/2012 10:07

R4 since I first had my own radio at about 12.

Don't mind ken Bruce on R2 and used to like Wogan (mum always had him on).

Don't get Chris Evans and Steve wright's ego drives me mental.

Buntingbunny · 13/06/2012 10:08

DDs put Heart FM on in the car, but it's a very limited play list and the ads drive you mad.

TheCunnyFunt · 13/06/2012 10:29

I'm 21 on Saturday and hate R1, they talk too much! Capital fm is way better, lot's more music than R1!

wrathomum · 13/06/2012 11:37

R1 is PANTS!

GothAnneGeddes · 13/06/2012 12:10

Radio 1 is played at work. It is not too bad, but nothing like the glory days of Peel, Mark + Lard and they used to have some v good weekend shows on there and a good Sunday night documentary.

I do like 6music, although the daytime can be very playlist heavy and the night time of variable quality.

I keep meaning to listen to Radio 4 more, but never get around to it.

I have to confess that my most listened to station is Absolute 80's. I love it. All the music I like (generally) with no inanity.

EssexGurl · 13/06/2012 12:23

I am 40-something. We listen to Radio 1 for the music. Most of the presenters (refuse to call them DJs!) wind me up but I love the music. I am trying to get back into running and listened to Sara Cox on my ipod this morning and it definitely made me laugh and run a bit harder, esp when Usher was on. I have tried Radio 2 but got fed up of 60s shite music. I can tune out the talking but like a bit of a sing a long.

crazyspaniel · 13/06/2012 12:27

I have always hated Radio 1 - I must have been born old.

Also, come to think of it, I can't think of a single female dj who doesn't irritate the hell out of me

ALittleFallOfRain · 13/06/2012 12:33

I'm in my twenties, and really don't like Radio One. I much prefer Radio Two (but then I listened to Desmond Carrington and Friday Night is Music Night with my Dad since I was about 14).

I was a teenager in Manchester though, so it was Key 103 or Magic 1152 on the school bus!

MaidenDevon · 13/06/2012 14:57

I remember in the mists of time listening to "Our Tune" in the sixth form common room each day with every ounce of emotion wrung out of the sob story by Simon Bates which inevitably finished with 10cc's "I'm Not in Love" or Chris de Blurgh's "Lady in Red".

The Radio 1 Roadshow with Gary Davis was a rite of passage during the summer holidays.

Radio 2 for me these days since 1992. I heart Lisa Leeza Tarbuck and she will be my best friend one day, she just doesn't know it yet.

I don't do adverts on TV or radio.

MarysBeard · 13/06/2012 16:00

I've listened to Radio 4 since my mid twenties. Radio 1 started to grate in my teens, but I do listen to it sometimes - I tend to like the music not the DJs. Some of them are ok, though I loathe Chris Moyles with a vengeance. In fact I listen to a variety of stuff, Radio 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 & XFM.

GothAnneGeddes · 13/06/2012 17:29

ALittleFall - does "Stu Allan Key 103!" ring a bell? I used to tape his show every Sunday and listen to it all the next week.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 14/06/2012 10:45

I used to like Steve Wright in the Afternoon on R1, especially Llama Man. Grin

Haven't listened to him since. Is he on R2? Anyone listen? What's he like?
