To be irrationally annoyed by cars with stuff on the back shelf

Specifically, but not exclusively, boxes of tissues, cushions, and high visability jackets. A special mention goes to people with so many cuddly toys they cannot possibly see out of the back window.

Not your car, not your problem.

wonkylegs · 11/06/2012 20:20

It is my problem if they drive dangerously because they can't see properly.
It annoys me too.

rainydaysarebad · 11/06/2012 20:20

No, I don't tend to care about things like that. What does piss me off are the "Princess on board" notices. Really annoying. Also we have 2 cars with a redbull can on the back. That pisses me off. Stickers piss me off too.

confusedpixie · 11/06/2012 20:21

I agree on the last one, but the rest? It's normal and YABU.

I had a neighbour a few months back with the cuddly toys. I was chatting over the fence with her and casually asked how could she see through the back, she said she didn't need too Hmm

rainydaysarebad · 11/06/2012 20:22

Okay, I wrote that wrong. We have 2 cars with the redbull can on the back IN OUR CITY. I don't own the monstrosities.

mothmagnet · 11/06/2012 20:22

I would quite like one of those large, stripey tigers that lie across the parcel shelf. Maybe I could strap one to the back of my bike?

Not keen on the bejewelled tissue boxes though.

gamerwidow · 11/06/2012 20:26

YANBU it annoys me too!
I have no problem with how people choose to customise their cars but not being able to see out the back makes you a liability to everyone else.

squeakytoy · 11/06/2012 20:27

so long as you can see out of your wing mirrors, then it is fine..

how do you think van drivers get on when they dont have a rear view mirror.. :)

malovitt · 11/06/2012 20:30

There should be absolutely nothing on the back parcel shelf for safety reasons.

Even boxes of tissues or similar light objects can become dangerous missiles and cause injury if they fly forward in an accident.

ChippyMinton · 11/06/2012 20:30

YANBU
Does anyone actually use tissues from the boxes neatly lined up on a taxi parcel shelf. And dangly air-fresheners make my teeth itch, especially the ones half-encased in the cellophane wrapper.

Although I confess that I have a hatchback without a load cover and my hi-vis jacket gives off a weird green glow when the sun hits it Grin

TheOneWithTheHair · 11/06/2012 20:31

I generally agree but I saw a great sticker on the back of a car this weekend.

In smallish writing "If I'd wanted you up my arse I'd have kissed you first!"

It made me Grin. Yes I know I'm sad but it tickled me.

PrisonerOfWaugh · 11/06/2012 20:34

Being able to see through your rearview mirror is not a requirement for a vehicles road-worthiness. Just think about all those vans and trucks out there. I have a friend who replaced his rear window with ply board after it smashed, and it allegedly passed its MOT like that. As long as you have functioning wing mirrors you should be able to drive safely.

On the other hand, making other road users suffer by viewing random infantile obsessions with stuffed toys is BU.

Thankgodforcaffeine · 11/06/2012 20:34

It doesn't annoy me...

...but it does make me laugh! Along with pram "embellishments", ie layers of frilly fabric over the carry cot.

Sorry I know it's unkind, but come on... :o :o
